well all went ok,after draining the oil ,i put a magnet stick thing in below the timing gear 20secs later its out, phew, went with how it was setup, and put it back together, started first time,no rattles,no leaks alls well, its done 500miles since and still going well, although still down on power,id love to figure out why its lost power, new engine new turbo, and ever since the guy rebuilt the engine for the 1st time its been lacking around 30 horses
apart from the engine rebuild its only had a vaccuum pump changed, its been to vantuner and still no joy,i bloody hate diesel engines and there stupid fueling systems

so you didnt pin flywheel then, and loosen camshaft sprockets

If you had done it right at least you could say 100% that's it wasn't the problem chain may not be tentioned right and also you could be a tooth out of time on the relucter ring,...madness

before you had mentioned it all,i had already pulled the pin and turned the engine over by hand, the way i see it is it wouldnt run if the timing was out,it runs fine albeit down on power,so it cant be a tooth out,the chain was held tight before i pulled the pin,so the right tension was acheived first time
sat at 70 to northampton and back today alls good, but the question i suppose is would it actually run if it was a tooth out?

Simply answer yes it will run if a tooth out on relucter ring'....you could of always repinned tentioner and rechecked it,'''and how can you say tention on chain is right if our didn't loosen cam shaft bolts....I'm not saying timing isn't bang on ..but yout certain to have douts---'

alls well,i must have got it right and the pole got it wrong, more and more power by the day as if its relearnt something, nearly back to full power,i think he was a tooth off or the chain was so stretched that the timing was never right,to undo the camshaft sprockets ,in my head would knock all the timing out so reluctant to do that,i had the chain tight on all sprockets the slack was all by the tensioner when i pulled the pin,i may not have done it your way but it amounts to the same thing, thanks for you help, much appreciated

Undoing camshaft sprocket bolts doesn'put timing out as camshafts stay put just sprockets move to take up slack, just because you had pulled pin dosnt mean you can't push piston back in and Repin it (reference for next time if needed)

cheers angeleye, alls well 65000 miles in,still low on power but ive got used to it now, still pulls well up to 2500 rpm then it fades

ive just finished working on my brothers mk6 and did it your way this time,we had to have the head off as it blew the center of the glow plug out, then when he tried to remove the remains of the plug it snapped the 10mm head off, just got it back together a couple of hours ago
had to tow it to get it running as the battery was getting low and we had no way to charge it,the forklift we were using to tow it has a battery thats to far buried to get to easily,we also fitted a new fuel pump as that was the original problem, overfueling, its running ok but he says its not as responsive,i told him to get some miles into it and see how it goes,we did the ign on for 15mins before attempting to start it,is there anything we should do regarding the new pump? its a 2.4 tddi 2001/02
