2013 transit mk7 Euro 5(i think) RWD 2.2 LWB.

The 2012 engine does not have hydraulic lifters.

I think you'll find it does.

If it doesn't have hydraulic lifters/lash adjusters, how is the valve clearance controlled..?? It doesn't have adjustble tappets or shims.

Where are the hydraulic lifters/tappets?
Images from the DRRB engine except maybe the first image.
1st image is from a post re oil feed - is one of the cradle bolt holes.

They're part of the "rocker pivot", same as the Euro-4 2.2 and 2.4.

Lifters themselves fit inside the rocker ladder.

Thanks for the info' / insight.

Explains the channels at the end bolts in the cradle. I thought they were for lubrication of the rockers.
They must be small to fit in the cradle.

So finally got a chance to strip the crank pistons etc

Hole in piston 3, everything else is looking fine apart from piston one has valve marks on its crown !

The piston itself was covered in carbon and I only noticed the indent after I cleaned the pistons up and removed the carbon to expose it, so I’m thinking that this must be older damaged that was repaired as the valve is fine and I can’t see how it would have hit valves without the timing being out and also if this was the case then carbon wouldn’t have been growing with a valve cleaning it every turn of the engine .

Mk7 eur4 fwd 140bhp 2010 100k miles.
Only got 600miles on it since my purchase.
Cracked piston #3.
I would have replaced and honed in situ (drilled small 10mm hole in sump ladder to access Conrod), but found 3mm crack starting on #4 piston.
Turbo bearings went at same time.
What attracted me to your post was, when I cleaned off old pistons, found an imprint on 1 exhaust valve on #4 piston.
Nothing else and valves appear smooth and undamaged.
My fuel was brutal.
I have removed/cleaned tank and fuel system and fitted X4 new injectors and pistons.
Left fuel samples settling. Water at bottom and a honey like deposit below this also.

Well gentlemen I have managed to pull apart the engine … we found the problem -

220k on the clock - cracked / holed piston cylinder 3 can only assume it’s a leaky injector over time - so obviously we will need a new piston for no 3 and rings for all 4 - what else should I replace while I have the engine out ? Everything else seems ok I don’t want to spend silly money as it’s only a campervan so gets very little use , I have no idea of the history of the van and what it has or hasn’t been through- I bought it broken and took a gamble on it being salvageable!

You have got some great advice here already.
Complete novice here (which can sometimes be a good thing...as even the stupid questions get asked), but don't assume that replacement pistons will come with correctly sized gaps.
Mine required check and subsequent filing down to correct spec.

I hope they didn't actually use a file..?? Pistons should come in specific sizes and should not need "filing"..!

Been busy with work so havent had much of a chance to look at the engine- had a quick look at the cylinders and with crappy measuring believe the bores are 89.06mm diameter? Makes no sense to me so im assuming my measing is waaaaaaaaay off!

I believe standard cylinder bore should be 86.015mm (+- .015) from looking at the hynes manual ?

I have ordered a bore guage so will be more accurate very shortly !!

From what I can gather, my bore of 86.13mm is out of specs and standard pistons (85.95mm) will not be suitable-

Is .5mm oversized pistons the next step up from standard?

Will try to resist chrome browser when ever possible, until i have no choice, compulsorily saves too much of your information to it -even if opted out , delete all cookies , you have to then log back in to use it, passwords, addresses, phone numbers it syncs with ebay making that unsafe- even if you don't want it to, the connections are there in place, the connections to it have been made, all wired up and ready to go, total integration, plug you phone into the PC .. it sees it and takes over it, pulls it into the set up ... so then security is only as good as your phone! - one more backdoor into ebay and your bank and ID theft, if someone hacks google . I have edge now that is i believe built with chrome... but does not integrate in quite the same heavy way.

oh, when you see those-- log in with ebay , log in with chrome , login with facebook, etc .. resist ...because as soon as you do, you've just created another way in, a pathway for a hacker ..
