My van is the FWD version. If i'm not mistaken you also think that the pump may be on it's way out?

As the latest answers, worth checking out all vac pipes .. if you have an AC, one goes under the dash to assist the heater/ AC controls .. also there is a electric control valve for vacuum: part number 6580879 - this if it has one .

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/393396534932?

Plus various check valves (one way valves) in the pipes.

I'm saying this, because these are cheap remedies ...So to rule them out first .before spending or going to the agro of vac pump replacement.

Thanks for that. Can i reach the solenoid without taking all the dashboard apart? I'll check other vacuum hoses and come back with whatever i find out.

May have been a misunderstanding from my side, apologies for that.

I'll check the vacuum hoses for as far as i can see them/gain acces to them without taking half the van apart. To clarify, in short the issue seems to be that the engine needs more RPM to accelerate to build up enough vacuum and to have the hard pedals and the proper throttle response. Haven't had a look yet at the cost of a new vacuum pump yet but since driving off with a higher RPM seems to be the "solution" i hope it's not something expensive.

Reading my opening post again i wish i could edit it. Though English is not my native tongue (as a Dutchman) i could've described the problem much better than i did there, again sorry for that.

Throttle has nothing to do with vacuum...it's a "fly-by-wire" system and is electronic. Vacuum only affects brakes and heater controls, (if you have A/C fitted).

That's why i think it's an RPM related vacuum issue, not throttle related in that regard aside from the fact that it'll have a weak throttle response when it doesn't have enough vacuum built up.

Low vacuum doesn't help the turbocharger, for starters. I know that. Now that i think of it, if low vacuum is weakening the throttle response AND making the clutch and brake pedals feel softer, it probably is the vacuum pump itself. Otherwise it wouldn't be in both "systems" i gues.

low vacuum would make the brake pedal harder not softer.

van parked - press the brake pedal with engine not running ... it should feel hard.

now then , if it still feels exactly the same with engine running ... then you have a vacuum pump or vac hose or servo/booster problem.

another test ... engine stopped press foot on brake pedal, keep foot pressed on it and start engine , brake pedal; should travel an extra inch or two, in the first couple of seconds . if not, you've no vacuum assistance,

Where do you get the idea that the clutch, throttle and turbo use vacuum..?? These engines don't have any vacuum in the inlet system...they "always" run at a slight positive pressure downstream of the turbo when the engine is running, the higher the rpm & load, the higher the boost pressure. The turbo doesn't use vacuum at all. The only negative pressure is upstream of the turbo between it and the air filter... and it is only a very small negative pressure... nowhere else.
As mentioned, the vacuum pump system is "ONLY FOR BRAKES AND HEATER CONTROLS", nothing else uses vacuum. The clutch is totally hydraulic and has no vacuum assistance. Throttle response also has nothing to do with vacuum...

It doesn't matter anymore as i'm a bit sad to report that my van has died. It's something related to the issue we were discussing here, als the van did not seem to have any power left at all and also the clutch and brakes (the pedals..) felt like they were gone. Managed to get the van to the workshop with some very carefull driving.

It wasn't exactly the first OR only issue the van had, i also knew that the clutch was on its way out, partially due to an oil leak on the flywheel side of the crackshaft seal. Also when the van was on the lift we (the mechanic and i) noticed that the van had started to rust quite badly as well. Though the mechanic wasn't able to determine the exact cause of the issue in this very limited time (once again no error codes), we looked the van over and came to the conclusion that enough is enough for this Transit.

The van has been sold to an export company, as i understood it's probably going to be used for parts in Eastern Europe.

I'd like to thank you all for trying to help me solve this issue. Sadly it's had a bad outcome today.

Thank you :) I'm currently looking through my options and am looking around for another van. Not sure if it'll be another Ford but we'll see what happens :)

I'll check in on here every now and then, even thoug the van is gone i'd still be interested if anyone comes along with a suspicion as to what may have caused this problem. Could also be usefull if anyone else runs into this problem in the future.
