Can I ask why if it’s left over night and I go out to it in the morning it will start up spot on 1st time

Warm/hot starters can and do play up, internal carbon build-up causes excessive current draw when hot & pulls the battery down, often to well under 10v...and leaves precious little for the fuel injection system to run properly.

Often a cleanout/rebuild or replacement of the starter sorts them. Some older motorcycles suffer the same fate too, I have an old Honda which is a sufferer of the same thing, never liked to start when hot....refurbished the starter and she starts good as new..

Little update I got the van plugged in today to forscan and only code I am getting is p0340 cam sensor and my fuel rail pressure is over 3000 on start up and I was able to do lean test and I also fitted new leak off seals today and going pick new cam sensor up tomorrow.

Little update I got the van plugged in today to forscan and only code I am getting is p0340 cam sensor and my fuel rail pressure is over 3000 on start up and I was able to do lean test and I also fitted new leak off seals today and going pick new cam sensor up tomorrow.

Rail pressure is over 3000 what..?? PSI, Bar, Kpa..??

What's a "lean test"..??

Change cam sensor today but still getting the same problem will start spot every morning but once you have done drive it will not start till it’s been sitting for 2 hours maybe more unless I use easy start or take fuel filter off and refill with diesel as the filter will only be half full. I have changed leak off seals checked fuel filter housing for cracks can’t see any checked all fuel lines round engine can’t see anything losing the will to live now.

Getting no codes when I do scan using forscan

Weird one.. but you say the fuel filter is emptying?

Does the van hunt on idle ?

Iv experienced SCV issues, ok when cold, get issues when warmed up. Might be worth a shot.

Emptying to half when stood. Mmm sounds like airs getting in. Is this before cranking your checking ?

I have changed leak off seals checked fuel filter housing for cracks can’t see any checked all fuel lines round engine can’t see anything losing the will to live now.

You won't see any air leaks and fuel doesn't leak out as the system is under a slight vacuum when the engine is running, there in no pressure in the inlet side of the fuel system on a Euro-4, they don't have an "in-tank pump" like the Euro-5's. You won't see any cracks in the filter housing either....when they do crack, they're very fine hairline cracks and near impossible to see. Air can also get in through the fuel filter seal itself, good quality genuine or "brand name" filters are recommended. The filter head supply & return hose O-rings and leak-off O-rings and lines can leak air in, they need to be removed, checked & lubricated. Just remember...air can get in but the fuel doesn't leak out, so you won't see any fuel leaks on the low side of the system from tank to the high pressure pump.

Have you checked/repaired the starter..?? It may sound like it's turning the engine over ok...but may be drawing more current when hot which causes all sorts of grief to the fuel system as it leaves bugger all for anything else...the pump and injectors need all the voltage they can get.

I have a similar query with mine but my hot start problem happens even if I've only just swithed the engine off so there wouldn't be time for the filter to lose fuel.
How soon after stopping your engine did you find the filter to be half full?

Fuel filter would take longer than a few seconds to empty..
