I’ll drop the tank down and I’m going to put the feed pipe in a can of diesel and see if I still get air bubbles, I know if I fill the filter up with fuel they stop so fingers crossed peoples

Thanks mick

You don't need to drop the tank, just pull the supply line from the tank to filter head and connect/drop a line into a fuel container to eliminate any feed line issues.

The filter heads themselves can get hairline cracks and leak air in.

I’ve already changed the fuel filter housing for a genuine one with filter. I’m struggling to find replacement pipes from the tank to the filter just in case it’s those.

Thanks mick

Would my van have a diesel cooler? Or just fuel lines going straight from the filter housing to the tank?

Thanks mick

Have a look under the van, towards the rear behind the tank, if it has one it will look like a small radiator....Pretty sure they all have one though.

Well I’ve had a dam good look under the van and took loads of pictures of the top of the tank and I can’t find one no surprise my van is the bottom of the range lol but when I took the return pipe off from the filter to the tank and took a picture and zoomed in you can definitely see a flat spot on the back green o”ring and it’s definitely discoloured same with the yellow one but no flat spot.

the feed pipe looks fine though, I can find the return genuine ford at a good price but I can’t find the feed or even a part number, I want to change both because it’ll just be my luck it’ll go soon after lol

Thanks mick

Screw it, I’ve been looking online and those pipes are actually in half’s, they go from the filter housing and as they go down just past the firewall there’s a connection but on mine there heat sealed just like the head of the connector is to the pipe, so I’m just gonna try and pop the o”rings out and replace them.

I don’t like doing things like this but needs must

Hi people’s I’ve still got this problem and it’s doing my head in,
:(
I constantly have tones of tiny and large air bubbles in my clear pipe I’ve primed the system and removed all the air with a hand primer from the front left of the of the filter housing, to the pump I removed the return from the back left of the filter housing if I put it in a clear bottle there’s no air once there’s flow I reconnect to the filter housing and remove the back right until fuel in running out, no air, I remove the hand primer and reconnect it all up and just for good measure I make sure the filter is brimming full, the van will run for about 6-10 minutes tick over then die and I’m back to square one :( :(

So I got a automotive smoke machine I’ve completely drained the fuel system tank, lines, injector rail / pipes, leak off pipes, I removed the tank but left all the pipes in place, so I put the smoke machine pipe on the tank feed pipe and filled the system with smoke until it came plumbing out the return pipe, no smoke in the engine bay at all! every connection was triple checked by sight and with an automotive stethoscope and just for good measure I used some soapy water just to see if there where any bubbles non at all, so I removed the return pipe from the filter housing, back right and put my finger over it and it holds at 1 bar pressure no hissing no drop in pressure for 5 minutes, so I reconnected all the pipes and got back under the van and put the smoke machine pipe back into the feed pipe but his time blocked the return off and left it over night at 1 bar pressure and it held at 1 bar………..then I thought the prv wound be stopping back pressure not letting the smoke to pressure into the fuel rail. So I removed the fuel rail feed pipe the middle nut on the fuel rail and traced it back to the bottom of the fuel pump. I used and old No1 injector metal pipe and connected it the rail pipe and slipped the smoke machine pipe to it with a jubilee clamp, no smoke and held 1 bar of pressure all day today never dropped…….i don’t know what to do or go to next I’m out of ideas

Parts that have been replaced…..

Tank sender / lift pump (not a pump). Official ford

Feed and return from the tank to the filter head. Official ford

Filter head (it came with a filter). Official ford

Clear pipe and its return pipe from the filter head. Official ford

Leak off pipes. Official ford

Recon injector’s 4x

So today I’ve done a leak off test for two reasons, one obviously to do the test and the other to see if I got any air out of the injectors and to see if one was worse than the others, I did get air all the injectors seem to put out the same amount of air. The injector leak off test was strange I’m only getting 20ml- 23ml over a 4 minute test

No1- 20ml
:)
No2- 23ml

No3- 21ml

No4- 20ml

I’ve cheaked the levels against a medical bottle with a good accurate scale on it in ml.

I’m going to redo all the learns this evening and see if I get I different result.

If anyone has any ideas please share :)

Ok so all the learns worked apart from the injector pilot correction error says it has not been possible to achieve the requested fuel rail pressure……I’ve checked and double checked all the pipes and connections no leaks……

when the engine is running and I remove the return pipe from the prv I get a steady stream of diesel is that normal?

I know very little about this subject .. but put question into google

https://www.google.com/search?q=CAN+LEA ... THE+SYSTEM

perhaps you should replace these as a precaution

for after market new ones.. (cant find any genuine ford on ebay .only used) between £16 and £40

i don't yet understand how the leak off pipes do this .. but others will explain, and if it is possible and confirmed by the knowledgeable ones .. go for it and buy a set .

from the disconnected return pipe or prv

Thanks metalworker0 and mark

From the prv side mark when you disconnect the plastic return pipe from the prv I’m getting a steady stream of diesel from the prv, I’m guessing the error (it has not been possible to achieve the requested fuel rail pressure) is meaning it’s too high as I’m not getting a pressure low code.

The only code I have is the injector pilot learn fail code.

metalworker0 I’ve got my old set off my old engine I might try with new seals of course

Ok so today I thought I’d check over all the injectors taking them out visually inspecting them one had threads that I didn’t like the look of so I reused one of my old injectors which I have the codes for, re-sealed all of them with new fitting kits, I’ve recoded the injectors with forscan and still can’t complete injector learns, while I had my laptop out I’ve used forscan’s monitoring to tell me the desired fuel rail pressure which it says should be 23000.0 @ idle, but the live data is dropping down to 13-14000.0 when hunting but roughly sits around 19-21000.0. @ idle?

I’m I right in thinking this would be an issue with the scv?

Thanks

Well to my way of thinking , if it's hunting, it's running momentarily at lower incorrect revs .. and low revs equal less pressure that the pump can make, so i would not come to that conclusion yet.

I don’t understand how there’s low fuel pressure in the fuel rail but the prv is still opening and letting fuel back into the leak-off pipe, I thought the prv would only open if there was too much fuel in the fuel rail to relieve the pressure? Or I’m I completely wrong? :?

Thanks
