Update:- Hi guys, I didn’t check cam timing after all ‘cos i thought if it’s had a new pump they would have done the chain whilst at it, i shouldn’t assume really ‘cos im not even sure it’s had a new pumpit just looked cleaner than everything else around it. Anyway the upshot is i bit the bullet and fitted a new timing solenoid based on the fault codes bit tricky but doable but now the engine only cranks 2 or 3 times then gives up as if batteries are dead but they’re only 3 months old(varta) so had them tested and they’re fine, also i had changed all 4 terminal clamps ‘cos the old ones were broken and i used to wedge a nail in to get them tight so i double checked them and scrubbed the connections with wire wool, so thinking it could be a bad earth checked the one from gearbox to chassis and it sheared off as i loosened it so welded it on surely can’t get better than that. Then i began to suspect the starter motor but when i saw a similar post where it only turned over 3 or 4 times and someone said it could be hydraulicing i remembered that when i had inlet manifold off i put rags in the 8 ports to stop crap falling in and whilst i was changing the solenoid it rained overnight and with the scuttle panel off the rags were soaked horror, so took them out and blasted water out with air blower gun some didn’t have much water in but one had quite a bit which took a lot of blowing out so i’m now thinking did water get past an open valve and is sitting on the piston? what are your thoughts guys take the glow plugs out and spin her up? sorry for long winded essay thought it best to give all the info
