Sport van 140 6 speed: Tyres, and Remap!

Remap. I contacted Martin of Vantuner.com after reading reviews of his work on this site.
Just let me say it is all true and a more helpfull chap you could not wish to meet, so rare in this day to find some one of the old school who is willing to put time and effort into completing work to the customers satisfaction.
I opted for Martins eco tune. Before the remap I was averageing 32 to 34 mpg around town, and 38 to 40 on dual carraige ways and motorways, combined this was roughly 450 to 500 per tank.
After the remap I now average 34 to 38 around town, and 44 to 48 on dual carraige ways and motorways, combined this is roughly 550 to 620 miles per tank.
Although on a motorway run of 350 miles last week the fuel computer was reading 720 miles to empty, this figure is worked out by adding the trip mileage to distance to empty figures. Shame the rest of the driving was town work, as i believe this figure to be true as I have found the fuel computer to be reliable in its figures.
The van also is also more relaxed to drive now, with more instant power and no lag.

Just waiting for Martin's new box of tricks now, got me name down one already.

The engine in the 140 6 speed is a fantastic unit with loads of torque certainly not flat but will of course depend of weight.
I have done over 10'000 miles and it just gets better and better, but it does need a remap to make the most of it. and you will get better MPG too.

i know have the imap on my VW T5 and it is fanblummintastic it was mapped before but Martyn has excelled himself and given me more, yep more power and more smoothness i am very very happy with my new box of tricks

Now for an update,

First service.

I now have 15'000 miles up and have just had my first service £179.00 at my local ford dealers tried to tell them that the 15'000 on the MK7 should be cheaper and that they were still charging the MK6 prices.
The reply was that is what we charge and are not intreasted in doing it any cheaper. so that is the service over and done with and the stamp in the book.

Re map

I also received by email an update to my engine tune from Martin at Vantuner, not there was anything wrong with my first tune.
Martin just said try this it should be an improvement on the first tune.
Well it has made a diferance, a much more linear power delivery in all gears so smoother to drive.
Fuel consumption, on mixed cycle driving, it has no dipped below 35mpg at all and I have now done 2000 miles with this tune applied.
Motorway driving at 70mph can return 42mpg, and better if you keep the speed lower.
So a big thank you to Martin at Vantuner again.

Tyre's

I changed the original front tyre's at 11'000 miles, could not squeeze any more from them, I now have Kumho's fitted to the front and after 4'000 miles do not show any real signs of wear or should I say are doing a lot better than the original tyres were after 4'000 miles.
Does not seem to be much change in the way they handle or seem to grip, slightly harsher ride and more road noise would be the only thing to mention, but that is only if I sit and think about it so not a great deal of difference.

Sounds good Mike, i was wondering how that updated tune was shaping up.. looks like i have the mk7 tuning licked now, finally PS i can take off the speed limiter now if you like
