Modern technology always seems to mean more parts to go wrong. Look at heating boilers. Compare the old floorstanders that would last 30 years to the high efficiency boilers of today, some of which will be lucky to make ten.

Would I go back to shouting at passengers just to be heard over the engine in MK5 and earlier? No chance. MK6/7 win hands down.

do you not think thats just the same as when people say this bloody steering wheel is crap its worn through, its only got 40k on the clock......

my mk6 has 200k on and seat is same as thunder riders just very small cracks in the edges.

Mk5 wins hands down for reliability and toughness, definitely a better built van but driveability the mk6 takes it all in its stride so id call it a draw!
It may be my van but its still ford's baby!

my mk6 tipper has 30k on the clock, its one of the recent glut of ex RAF vans that have flooded the auction houses recently and the seat is starting to go, im sure it will have a rip in the next 5k. maybe its my line of work? maybe the height of the van? i know a good mk5 seat is hens teeth to find.

DEAN MACHINE wrote:I had 4 mk5 with no real problems other than rust , im on my 5th mk6 and the first 4 were very reliable and i put big mileage on all of them , however i got me a 54plate 350 in december and since i got it ive had a new diesel pump, front and back brakes , a new prop shaft , a new gear linkage, all that in 4 months :x . i think (hope) that this is just a bit of bad luck , my next van will be a mk7 but ive got to put 150,000 miles on this first , i just hope its up to it

Why would u need new gear linkage on a rear wheel drive

mk5 much easier to look after than my mk 6 tourneo. use the old beast much more. had noproblems with it for 10 years the new one been in and out of the garage every 6 months with another expensive diagnostic fault. mk 5 forever
