Can the annoying green arrow be deactivated?

My van has the green arrow and the only time it comes on is when I turn on the ignition and all the dash warning lights come on.
At what revs is it coming on?
Am I being to gentle with my van?

You could take the light-hearted approach and play my 'Beat the SIL' game (copyright, patent applied for).

But seriously, one year on, I'd say I tend not to notice it except when I need to, if you see what I mean. For example, if I'm not concentrating as I should be, it will remind me that I should change from 5th to 6th, with the TDCi being too refined to scream at me.

It may be present and not active for some reason, as reported by other members above. What is your van/engine/final drive ratio combination? If you were to attempt to reach 50 mph in 3rd gear, surely it would come on if it were functional.

In my experience with the 6-speed, 115 PS TDCi, the ranges I use, roughly corresponding with the SIL:

1st and 2nd gear as required
3rd gear up to 30 mph
4th gear 30 to 40 mph
5th gear 40 to 50 mph
6th gear 50 mph and above
Reverse gear 70 mph and above

The SIL favours RPM between 1500 and 2000, and on the 115 PS TDCi, maximum torque is around 1800.

My van is old enough that the arrow doesnt work. Used to have a focus (where the clocks were pinched from) and the shift light didnt light up until you were hitting the red line

in our luton mk7 itcomes on when you stop accelerating ....ie if it comes on and you accelerate more it goes out. so if you acc ,change acc, change till you get to 6th you dont see it. if you level out in 1st 2nd 3rd 4th or 5th at any speed it will come on

Here is the Ford news item from December 2008, so it seems that your van should have it and it should be working. Do any Ford 'insiders' here know why some work and some don't?

think it depends on van trim level etc as to wether its activated. i find it a pain in the arse too, i was given a van to deactivate drive away locking other day and i thought oh i'll ave a look see if it says anything about the shift light, bloody ids decided to throw a wobbler and cant upload the van parameters to ids!!! must b a software fault with latest updates, none of our ids will do it anymore!

Different people are annoyed about different things ...

Some people can't stand squeaks in cars, some hate {HATE!} dangly things off the rear view mirror, mucky windscreens .. etc etc etc ....

But i have to say ...

The GREEN shift light on mine ...

DRIVES ME F***ING NUTS ... I HATE IT ....

It's not practical at all to shift when it comes on ... Whenever i see a flash of GREEN on any dashboard, i assume i have left the indicators on !!!
Flicky Flashy Lights on Dashboards are a swine [for me] to ignore at best of times, but GREEN ... Indicators !?
Leaving indicators on is Capital F' Dangerous at any time, in any motor, but on a bike it's asking to DIE !

Bike ? WTF's he on about ?? ... Iv'e got a Suzuki Thou Motorbike, which has a GREEN idiot light on the dash, to tell you when your in 6th Gear ...
It does the same thing to me [but at least it doesn't flash / flicker like the tranny shift light !!] ... I hate that too

I seem to remember reading .. that Ford can disable the shift light through the computer hook up whatsit at the dealers ?

Mine's going in for service soon, so i'm gonna get em to disable it ... I HATE's IT's .. I DO !!!
