you dont need that timing kit if your just changing chain and tentioner, use drill bits ,that kits more for taking fuel pump out with out taking chain off,....althou it has the timing pins(instead off drill bits)
to take front off panel headlights rad etc, its less than an hours work

Yeh the problem is if i leave it stripped where it is it will get illegally stripped :x as for the kit i thought if i buy that and have future pump probs i can whip it out without doing the chain again! will it suit my tdci aswell? could be handy :)

you might not need cover ive took mine off and reused loads off times with all the probs i had with mine just be careful how you remove it ..depens what its been sealed with .to how hard it will be to get off,may well need to prize it off,try getting a stanley blade around as much off it as possible..its not a gasket its sealant, ford sealant is very good but £15,a small tube, get some from motor factors,
new cover is £50 .put a new crank seal in cover,(not sure if new cover would come with seal)
not sure about tddi injectors pretty good normaly ,if it was your tdci i would say yes get em cleaned and checked

Finally managed to get this stripped this afty! so got a couple of questions for you guys :) i've got the timing pins in inc the flywheel pin! i just want to check that there's only one place for the flywheel pin to go in ? no1 piston is just before tdc! do the toothed pulleys have the little bit of adjustment just for the play in the chain fitting ? as for the actual outcome, the exhaust cam seemed to be one/two teeth out, could this have caused any piston/valve man love ? there appears to be no top end damage at all :) as for parts well i'm going to need a cover as it now resembles a bannana  chain/tensioner and guide set and some sticky stuff! any suggestions of other bits i might aswell do now? i'm getting the injectors done as there out :) the guides did seem worn and the tensioner guide had quite a few indents at the bottom as though the chain has been thrashing it under load :? i also done this with the front still on and i'm still amazed just how easy the mk6 is to work on there was plenty of room 8)

did you take intake off and do a compression test first then :?: :?:

with the timing out i would defo take rocker cover off and check for loose bolts though.

the tensioners are £52 from ford not worth reusing an old one.

dont worry about the cover they always have a curve in them when you take them off.
once its back on with some decent gasket sealer it will pull it back straight, also if needed you can just tap any bent bits straight when fitted again.

angeleye i still havnt used that sealer you gave me yet, but will be doing my own 2.2 tdci conversion soon, so will need it then.

the sprockets are to be loosend and then chain tensioned with tensioner to take up the slack, the cams themselves and pump itself will be locked anyway, then whe3n slack in chain is taken up tighten all bolts

the tddi injectors are often over looked they can cause all sorts of problems just like any injectors, but they normally will still work even when very worn unlike the tdci injectors as youll know, as the have to work to such very fine tolerances.
plus just like anything they can fail.

theres 2 places the flywheel pin can go, just make sure the torx bolt on end of crankshaft points to 11 oclock or this position

and cams in this position not 12 oclock

cheers winterheating yeh ive taken the rocker cover and rockers out to check! all ok up there :) the timing is all pinned up in the positions you've pictured! i must admit i havn't done a compression test yet as my compression tester hasn't arrived yet  can i still do a test without the chain on? i thought maybe i could as all the valves are up with no rockers on? also how can i check the rockers themselves ? theres nothing visual but i'm sure i had a tappy one :? and yeh the injectors are getting done :wink:and i've already ordered a new chain tensioner and guides :) i'm actual quite enjoying it quite easy to work on really :D

just to add centralise crank seal in cover when putting cover back on,,dont forget to take out bolt in pulley if you have been using it to align timing.you cant do compression test with out chain on ,as you need to turn engine over,to see if valves have been damaged, thats why winterheating asked if you had done compression test before stripping down,if you have a difference in compessions, something could be amiss with valves, thus having to strip it back down, hope you will be ok.have a look at rockers they have bearings, fitting camshaft side, may be worn, just have a good look at them for signs of wear, also camshaft lobes, they are usealy quite good with all the oil in there.
