I am hoping to fit a new bearing assembly this weekend.
I have the puller but not the press.
I want to make one with the threaded bar idea using m16 rod.
My question is this:
What sized washer/socked can I use to drive the bearing assembly home and where should it sit on the bearing? Is/ inner race, outer race ect. I am hoping it will press on as I tighten the but on the threaded bar.
Please advise.
Thread is 14 years old...the person you're replying to hasn't been on here since 2012. You'd be best off starting a new thread with your issue as new posts in old threads tend to get lost.
What model Transit do you have..?? Mk6 or Mk7..?? FWD or RWD..?? I'll assume Mk7.
Front bearing is a complete assembly and is "pressed" onto the hub, the inner race must be supported when pressing the hub into the bearing, otherwise the bearing "will" be damaged....bearing/hub assy is then held into the suspension strut by 5 x T50 torx bolts. Once the strut inner faces are clean and free from rust/corrosion, the bearing assy should just slide into the strut....apply some copper-slip around the mating faces to help prevent corrosion and allow easy removal next time.
The front hub nut on the FWD is torqued to 500nm or 369lb-ft. RWD front hub nut torque is 440nm or 325lb-ft.

You can buy bearing and hub already assembled to make things easier:
