What did you do to your mk6/7 today?

Isn't getting older sh*t foofing about with a £40 radio and I loosely plugged it in and it came to life no antenna so I played with settings, but there's no sound so I thought that guy on fb sold me a dud, reeling about how my life sucks etc and about 20mins I plugged the original stereo in and it suddenly dawned on me............ Dick!

Where did you acquire your new cills from? And are they decent quality, my fanny has a hole in the passenger door cill so need to purchase some parts

Ebay some are painted black and others galvanised. I've had some from central panels which seem ok. On the swb it's only the sld cill and the front is the cill and full wheel arch. You can buy a cill repair panel which requires that you cut yours up and weld the panel on top, but you have to be creative.

Galvanised isn't really that,it weld normally with my gas mig. I think it is just sprayed on galv.

The trick is to spray some spot weld spray on the faces of where the panel is welded. Alu zinc spray which you can weld spots through but around them stays, it takes 300c so the idea is it keeps around the spot painted. But be warned you have to make sure that you catch the second panel through the hole or you do a lovely spot weld but a nice ping and a gap between the panels side tip so the odd edge weld every inch or so. I use sanding flap disks to clean the heads up and more alu zink spray. But I'm inside. If you're outside you don't want to let it get wet on metal as it'll rot

Expensive week for my camper, last week a new fridge as the old one gave up the ghost and melted the plug, Bought a new one from Helfrauds only to find they've made it slightly bigger than the old one, only an extran 10mm but when it's going into a location built around the old one it's an issue. Got over the length by taking the wheels off the bottom, the width works but still needs to be addressed once we get back from the weekend away. Helfrauds also had the honour of putting two new front tyres on the van outside the house, the NS was on the limit so overdue TBH but they'll give us several years of life based on the 12,000 miles we've done in 2 years of owning it.

I fitted train air horns to my van last night, lol.
Got a compressor and air tank under the floor, just behind the driver, the air horns are under the front bumper.
I need to wire up the relay and connect the air line and gauge to the dash somewhere, but I will amuse myself greatly honking 140db at unsuspecting pedestrians crossing the road haha

The air on board will definitely be handy though, airing up tyres, blowing down things, inflating ballons etc.

just a couple of horny van owners haha

The compressor is powered directly from the battery, its 'live' at all times.
The activation relay has an override switch in the rear, so I can turn it on at any time if I'm in the back, otherwise the relay is activated by a switch powered from acc.
The horn solenoid is powered by acc, so the van at least has to be switched on for the horn to work.
It's not on at all times when the van is powered, I still need to manually charge up the tank, this prevents the compressor from running when not needed.
It holds air very well, almost no leakdown, so unless I'm sitting on the horn a lot, it won't need to be charged up often.

Thought I'd add the wiring diagram here, it might be handy for someone else.
It's just a simple 2 relay setup, with a power override switch.
I put the override switch in the rear near my air line fitting, so if I'm in the back working I can charge the tank without needing to switch the van on.
Once I set up the extra battery, I'll pull the power feed from that instead, so I don't risk flattening my starting battery.

The pressure switch is on the air tank, if it's under rated pressure, its n/c, allowing the circuit to operate. once the air tank reaches pressure, it'll automatically shut off the compressor, regardless if the override is on.
The fuse I used is a 30A self resetting unit. The fuse, Relay 1 and wiring should be sized appropriately for the expected draw of the compressor.

Edit, Actually just noticed the error in my diagram, the horn relay (R2) should pull its power to Pin85/87 from the ACC feed, not the 30A Batt+ feed, otherwise the air horns can be activated at any time, not just when the van is on...

Spent four days of the weekend away in the van at a campsite just chilling. A couple of jobs needed doing, nothing major, one was swapping the broken heater vent on the neaside where I sit with the one in the middle of the dash where the phone/satnav holder is attached to, job done in 10 minutes once I removed the phone mount and refitted it. I wanrted to hide the poswe cable for the dashcam under the trim but the cable I took was only 2m and didn't reach so I'll attempt it again with the 3m cable. When getting the awning pout I broke one of the joints, a quick google found a supplier not too far off the journey home so called in and as it was a small one man band operation he had a quick look at the broken part and said you only need y part instead of x part that I'd ordered and in doing so I saved £20.

Used mine as an engine crane to remove a 2.2 from a Mk8 in the gravel compound to put into our new Mk8 jumbo which is in the workshop.
