They can be had for a lot less than that....a good example are these (Brand New full set) for less than $1000AUD...only 591 Euros.

Correction codes are essentially a guide/starting point for the PCM to learn what the system needs....they're not essential....however, if the injectors are poorly, like the second hand ones you have bought, you're wasting your time.

Thanks

I needed to transport some equipment so I drove the van anyway. Towed a trailer for about 300 km with total weight of approx 1000 kg and had around 400 kg inside the van. Prior to loading the van I drove about 100 km. During these 100 km there was a clear hammering sound from the engine at any load but after a while it disappeared at normal load. I measured the cylinder balance before loading and the max value measured had increased from around 6 to around 8.

Are the cylinder balance values due exclusively to the injectors or could there be another cause? Not keen on spending several 100 EUR again unless I'm almost sure it will fix the engine problems. Any other checks I should do before changing the injectors again?

The "balance" numbers is the PCM trying to compensate for poor injectors...adding all these numbers together should, (in theory), come to zero.

Thanks
I understand more for each answer.
My values were
-1,044
-6,396
2,641
4,799
right after I changed them.
Does it mean I can buy three new ones and keep the one at -1,044?

I guess the balance numbers (in mg btw) are all I need to diagnose bad injectors? Not necessary to perform a leak-off test or those pressure tests I've seen where they disconnect the injector for a second.

Just try and run the learns again...you've got nothing to lose.

No progress since last post.

Is there any kind of service on the injectors I can do on my own? Thinking it would be worth a try.

Not unless you have the proper disassembly/assembly tooling, cleaning and testing facilities handy.

Thanks

Do you have an overview of the refurbishing process and the kind of tools / equipment needed?

This is not for a DIY person .. all you can do is take the injector nozzle off
.. if it was TDI and not TDCI .. you could pull the whole injector apart and service it.
.. but TDCI .. NO - its a specialist job

i'm not sure how re-newing the nozzle would improve things ..no ones really gone in to it on here.

nozzles are available on ebay - £120 a set... and only seem to be available from one supplier

i think once overhauled by specialist .. the computerised machine that tests it assigns the number to the injector -- that is why its not DIY

Thanks Mark, that was helpful.

What about ultrasonic cleaning?

well i have done untrasonic cleaning on a petrol engines port electronic injectors .. but that involved me .. building a bench test machine to supply the pulses and duration and the fuel at 27 psi - i built the machine .. and electronics engineer built the circuit board.

and this was the result.

so in order to clean then with untrasonic you must figure out a way to rapidly pulse them on and off ..

at the time i did this was 2006.. and it was established than that you could do no harm to this type of injector by pulsing it whilst submerged in ultrasonic tank
note that my petrol injector runs at 27 psi .. not 36,000 psi

i do not know the ins and out of these super high pressure injectors .. or if harm would be done to them under what you propose.

No Transit injectors run at 36,000psi...the most we'll see is ~1600bar or 23,206psi.
