I think it only cycles three times thro 1 to 5 pressure points. So I was one away from it completing.

Also… I have no error codes relating to the injectors or anything else now. So why still black smoke Upton high revs or under load or uphill?

As I have had new EGR valve and no other error codes. I understand it’s because it’s dumping too much fuel or incomplete combustion or running rich. Thinking now new air filter and fuel filter. And definitely injector issue somewhere.

Same error message. Conditions incorrect. Idle speed outside limits.

*** UPDATE ***

I changed the fuel filter and air filter this weekend. To see if it allowed the injector pilot learn to complete by improving idle speed. But no joy.

I am still getting black smoke at high rpm or under load.

As you recall I have fitted new EGR.

There are no viable signs of vacuum leaks. I put some uv dye in the oil and no visable oil leaks. So the pooling at the top injectors was probably me spilling it when topping up a while back.

Anyway. I noticed the air filter was quite black and I have recently changed the intercooler pipe that also had black sludge in it. So I think I am getting nearer to the problem…. No error codes on forscan except I completed injector pilot learn and that injector 1 having a minus 1.5 ish correction balance factor.

So I am suspecting either bad cylinder/piston rings or injector in cylinder 1
Bad PCV or SCV that a poster mentioned previously. Or something else causing the black smoke. But no error codes? So I am stumped to the cause without doing leak of test or compression test or removing injectors and getting them tested. When I remove each injector connection in turn they all make a difference to the RLM so that says they are all working to some degree… as if you unplug them and they make no change then it suggests they are bad??

So still no further into knowing the cause but have eliminated the fuel filter or air filter at least. But something wrong somewhere and not being picked up by a forscan dtc code. I also found out why I am not getting access to some PIDs on forscan to further monitor the cause… like short and long term trim ect. It’s because I don’t have a decent ELM cable. I got a cheap one with a manual HS CAN switch. Apparently this means some PIDs don’t load up in forscan without a decent data cable.

Any further advice given the above update?

Black smoke typically will be a boost leak.

Have the PRV open counts been reset.

I tried doing that. But on my forscan 2 month extended liscence it says unsupported. Tried every variation too… engine on, engine off, hs can switch on and off. Just says service proceedure not supported. But I have one of those cheap elm data cables from eBay so it won’t give me full forscan functionality.

LT08 UER.

2.4 Mk 7 Transit RWD. With engine front to back not left to right. (Transverse)

transverse - across - anyway you like across whatever.
However - transverse - at 90 degrees to the longer axis.
So transverse is FWD. RWD is not transverse.

It’s RWD. Front to back engine. My mistake. Not transverse but longditude…. Whatever it is… it is a rwd 2.4.

Thanks for the advice about the boost leak… but wouldn’t this throw up a forscan DTC?

Whatever is causing it… it’s not throwing up a forscan DTC. And as I don’t have access to all the PIDs. Due to the cheap cable. I can’t see what the PIDs are suggesting it could be. By checking long and short term fuel trim ect.

Check all pipework from turbo to intercooler and from intercooler to inlet manifold and intercooler and manifold itself. Any whoosh noises on load ?

I think your next step will be a leak down test regardless.

Do you mean leak off test on injectors?

Or leak down test on cylinder compression?

Or both? If so which first. Easiest I suppose?

I would still have thought any compression or injector issues would have thrown up a forscan dtc

Just reading this thread now.
What are the revs at idle? Sorry if you've already posted.
