Tried installing ids tonight but had no joy :( Will have a better look tomorrow evening when I've more time. I noticed there was no v81 calibrations file with the CD and was hoping someone could link me to it?

V81 dvd should have calibrations unless you mean you don't have that disk?

I don't have the v81 DVD. I received 2 CDs, one for Ford the other for Mazda but neither have the v81 files.

I installed ids 1st time using your instructions rather than the ones that came with the vcm which failed. Thanks for your help Loot man :)

Can't you blag a copy of w7? :-)

Think you can upgrade to w7 if you're running vista (though may depend which version? )
Via Direct download from Microshit support. Was gonna do this myself till I found I'd have to upgrade the ram etc so never bothered.

I'm pretty sure a machine running vista will run quicker with w7 on, i believe w7 is based on xp but with better resources

Can anyone link me to v81 calibrations? I seen a post on this forum saying the dvd is about 3.5gb but the only ones I can find are a lot smaller that this

Calibrations sorted :)

When I try to connect to my van I get an error message something along these lines

Unique identifier can not be found

Please check your diagnostic system is up to date.

Has anyone come across something similar?

I've got my hands on a copy of xp that I'll pop on to my laptop tonight and try installing it on that.

Try that and maybe try ids on another vehicle just to make sure it is the vcm/software that is at fault.
You need the vehicle ignition in pos 2 dash lights on when connecting ids.

The ignition was on and I successfully connected to the van using the Fsuper after the vcm failed.

Has anyone used ids with VMware? Is there any negatives from using it?

Do you have other diagnostic software on the laptop?

You would have xp/7 with updates only and then ids, partition the hdd if you want other software ideally.

You need to make sure that ids is running correctly and that it connects to the vcm workout issue.

Most likely problems are faulty cable or faulty capacitor on the vcm that deals with connections.
Had a quick search but can't find the capacitor fix how too :-(

I've a few other bits of software that work with the fsuper I'll try deleting them before I try again.

I plan on partitioning about 40/50gb and installing xp to run ids only.

I'll take a few screenshots of how I'm installing it on xp and of any errors that might pop up when its installed.

OK so xp for some reason refused to install on my laptop  on currently installing windows 7 ultimate to see if I can get ids and my vcm to work. One thing I've noticed is in a few of the tutorials I've read they say to install v86 of ids but the one that came with my vcm was v86.01A. Has anyone any experience with v86.01A? Is it just the same as earlier versions?

It's an update
Check the file size, if it is 300-500mb then your OK but if it is 25-50mb then it's just the update.
I have v86 and v86.04 update, i doubt i could run direct from the v86.04 tho.
