I see thanks, yes makes sense to fit transit one then really, although isn't the plastic cover different (or is that separate part?)

The transit wheel is the same as the cmax and the airbag is compatible however, the transit wheel has the squib locator pins holes which are on an angle.which means if you fit the cmax it will need to be calibrated with forscan/ids or it will think it is off centre and being the abs light on at speed. (from memory)

The focus mk2 wheel is different in that the airbag is different, but the connector is the same so if you use the wheel then use its airbag as a pair.the telltale is a black plastic trim with the horn contacts on.

I've never seen the 2 connector as mentioned above so will suggest that it may be a transit connect or other wheel?

There's loads of info on airbags etc as it's been Done loads.

The cmax wheels are plentiful and I suggest cheaper than the transit ones but since they're getting older now they'll be fairly easy to get.

A transit glx wheel with cruise buttons will be direct fitment just look for the 2 squib holes to compare.

Thanks for that. What is a squib?!

Overall, which would you say is the easiest, Cmax wheel with Cmax airbag or Cmax wheel with transit airbag?

I have Forscan. thanks again

Transit and cmax airbag are the same.
The wheels are similar but the 2 holes for the squib (clockspring) are different.

If you search for transit wheel and find a leather 1 with cruise buttons and it is cheap enough then get that 1.

If you can't find any but can find the cmax then get that 1.

Try to avoid the focus mk2 wheel if possible.

Thanks Loot. I now have two things to look up, squibs and clocksprings :D

I have bought a Cmax wheel which should arrive tomorrow, hopefully in time for me to fit and get it working before a long drive tomorrow evening. Wish me luck :D

The clockspring is basically a ribbon of wire inside a round housing that allows the steering wheel to be rotated and not damage the wiring to the buttons on the steering wheel. Horn, airbag and cruise buttons namely.
All clockspring are the same on the transit/cmax so you don't need to touch it.
A tip .
Remove the airbag
Steer the front wheels straight ahead and lock the steering.
Compare the 2 squib holes on both wheels they will look similar but either straight online or offset.

Remove the centre bolt.
Don't allow the squib to rotate,it will try to as the airbag wire will need feeding through the hole in the wheel.but pay attention to the squib,it can move but not 180 degrees so just hold it until the new wheel is fitted, fit the centre bolt then plug it all in and fit the airbag.

If the holes were offset and different to yours then you'll need to calibrate the steering angle sensor software(if you have esp)

I can't seem to get forscan extended license. their "how to" page has a link to generate a license, but it's a bloody non existent page (404 error)!
Anyone know how to get it? thanks

Thanks to Loot and others on here we now have CC working in Mk7 Minibus. It's not great though (maybe I have been spoiled by Mercedes CC!) so wondered if others can confirm they have the same isssues.

When i have CC set, lets say to 60mph, if i am going down a hill the speed increases past 65-66 mph due to gravity and the CC cancels itself. I have used CC in many vehicles before and never seen this. It does the same if I go up a hill and speed drops to 53mph (ish), it cancels.

It's not a huge problem, definitely worth having the CC for the long flat motorway runs, but when you go into more hilly areas (even still on motorways) this can be a pain. Just wondered if something is wrong with mine or if this is normal?

We now have a MK7 SWB Transit 2009. REALLY want Cruise.
We have low grade BCM but I have a friend with a C grade one I can have, so that's that taken care of. A few questions about what else I may need...

1. Do I need to change my dash clocks? I didn't realise this may be necessary, but saw it mentioned earlier in this monster thread. Not sure if it applies to my van, or how to check. If I need to get clocks I think I'll give up on retrofitting cruise and be forced to look at expensive aftermarket solutions, can't afford that for a long while though

2. I have Forscan (Full version). How difficult, and how risky is it to try to 'code in' a BCM? I am a bit nervous about bricking the van/BCM.

I struggled to follow the 'squib wires' instructions at the start of this thread. I think I may be able to work through it very slowly, but I also read that it 'may' be needed, suggesting it isn't always needed. Is there a way to check before I go further, whether I need to solder up some wires for the 'squib'?

PS I am in Cornwall, if there's anyone in Cornwall or Devon who can do the programming part, assuming I did the rest of the work, please shout!

Thanks

Hi all you need is c level bcm and the steering wheel. For Cruise and then get it activated. Someone with forscan knowledge should be able to tell you more on that.

That's not the impression I got from reading this thread. If that's all I need why is there stuff about squib wires, clocks, etc?
I have Forscan and can find out about the programming side of things, just trying to suss what's needed beyond the BCM and wheel with buttons. That can't really need all I need is it?!
Thanks loot

It's an old thread, but i think yes sorry you're correct. I was thinking of the trip stalk buttons not the cruise buttons.

My bad. Yes there's 2 wires needed for the cruise steering wheel. If you have heated screen or what not then they may be present. If you remove the lower steering wheel plastic cowl and you look at 6am you'll see the lower squib connector. It should have 2 orange wires next to each other(should be detailed in the thread) can you confirm if they are there on yours?

So you'll need bcm, 2 orange wires present and the steering wheel with cruise buttons. :P

You don't need to change the speedo or anything just activate cruise software.you'll know it is active when you turn the ignition on you'll see the green cruise symbol light up momentarily

Thanks Loot. I am not with van now but will look later for those orange wires.
The van is very basic, no heated screen etc, so I am expecting they wont be there. Here are the questions I have after reading the thread:

1. Will I need to program the key?
2. If I need the wires, that's where I am not sure I am up to it, so a brief summary of where the wires go from/to would be handy.

I have activated cruise before (last van had high level BCU) so I am happy with the Forscan side of things, just nervous about what other things need doing when replacing BCM (i.e. risk of bricking van, need to program keys/clocks etc)

thanks again

There's a few ways of doing things.

If you only have the new bcm then you will need incodes and the procedure is module initialization - BCM

You won't need to program keys as such but will do the same procedure with incodes. You usually need 2 working remote keys. The bcm may have upto 5 keys already stored so consider whether you want to remove them. (at your own risk)
You'll see what is there in forscan I'm sure.

We used to get free incodes from calf but you need to pay for them these days. I was under the impression forscan did it automatically but believe that stopped when ford event fully online only.

The thread should show you the 2 wires I made to for Cruise and where they go.
