Non starting mk6

Replaced it and it made no difference so disconnected it again

There is a fuse on the positive feed from the battery going down under the drivers seat if that's blown it won't start had it on a mates van around that age

If new starter motor is just clicking (solenoid)

Then check main barrery terminal on starter if there is 12v+ Should be permanent live, even with ign switched off.

Right have been poking around with my multimeter again, actually had the other half there to help this time.
At the starter motor I'm getting 12v on the big terminal, if I bridge the 2 terminals I still only get a click from it.

Dodgy starter perhaps?

Sounds like it, was the old one full of swarf

Yes.

Unless the battery hasn't enough power to turn it over but I'd expect it to sound like it wants to, put main beam on and then bridge it, if battery then the lights will go very dim.

Battery is still at 12.5v
I even tried it with my spare battery which was fully charged

OK, so it's not the DMF breaking up and clogging the starter, but the new one sounds like it's faulty, assuming all the wiring is now correct

Replaced the starter again and still the same

Guess I'm going to have to bite the bullet and get the mechanic to take a look at it

Put a jump lead from battery negative to a good earth on engine, then try again

Whack the starter

New battery, new starter motor, wiring checks out ok....

Have you tried rotating engine by hand to make sure it hasn't seized

Had it running on sunday
