mark 4/5 transits as winter said are easily fixed ,i rebuilt the whole top end of the engine on my mark 5 for as little of 70 quid! but fixing my mark 6 with mostly second hand parts has run into around 600! just glad i can do this myself or garage bills would have ran into 1000's prob but mk 5 are more idiot proof for the street mechanic i would say and in my opinion ,as much as i love the mk6 i still say the mk5 was a better van maybe slower but a way better work horse

That is one of the salient points to come out of this discussion! One of the issues that concerns me about the prospect of owning a Mk7 is the need for computer diagnostics. Is there any system that can be used by the concerned owner to monitor the van's electronic systems without having to rely on a dealer? Something like Vantuner's i-Map perhaps, or can a simpler system be built?

I have a little hand held Mac Tools code reader that I (mainly) use for clearing codes on mk7's but it does quite happily read codes on them as well, brilliant bit of kit :D it wont work on the mk6's though :(

This is the older version, they have brought out a newer model now which I believe has more functions on it :?:

if your fixing transits all the time its going to leave a bad impression, just like someone working in a merc cgarage.
an unchipped 313cdi CANT beat a a 125TDCI MK6(when its running correctly  )
Your chipped 311 must be pushing out over 150bhp is it :?:

MY SPRINTER IS JUST ON THE 150 BHP. BUT NEVER BLOODY GOES WRONG AND STARTS ON THE BUTTON EVERYTIME. PS THE COMPANY THAT I WORK FOR RUN 50 PLUS MERCEDES SPRINTER SERVICE VANS. AND AROUND 50 MIXED MK6 AND MK7 TRANSIT SERVICE VANS. THEY HAVE TO BE FORCED TO GIVE UP THERE SPRINTERS FOR A NEW TRANSIT. THAT TELLS YOU SOMETHING SURELY..

same old thing, people have transits with no problems for plenty of miles, same as sprinters, but with both vehicles, people could have problems from new or countless strange problems that cost a lot to repair. injectorpump faults.and theres twice as many if not more transits, than sprinters.
just down to luck really.
ive only drove a couple of sprinters, and get the impression that they feel faster than they actually are :?:

Dont know i dont go that way very often normally end up going wrotham hill way london bound. hit the bottom in top gear around 70mph and can floor it staying in top and can go over around 85mph. the mk7 100tdci that are company run go over around 75 but there not loaded up in the back as my sprinter. mine goes around 4 tonne. i dont know what the 125 transit mk7 do . give me a clue ?
this is just my opinium. each to there own. as winterheating says as i work on mk6 mk7 transits 6 days aweek so seem bad to me. but it keeps me employed

My 130T260 pulls any hill, anywhere, including the long M2 drag Dover bound past Buckmore Park Karting loaded on the factory limiter, still does it with the roof rack on even after 110k miles
