just been out to have a proper play with my vcm 2 .
did a load of prelimary checks,
dtc`s
pedal
fan
engine warm up
turbo
injector
vss
all pass except vss (null module, so doesn`t apply to mine)
but i`ll be buggered if i can find the part of menu to do a pump/pilot learn and pcm update.
is "injection correction factors" where it is at?

Do you have a mk7?

Go to engine- service functions and it will be there, top option is code injectors, 2nd is fuel pump pilot learn, 3rd is injectors pilot lean etc.
Pcm update is, module programming-module reprogramming-pcm, and it'll tell you if there is an update available.

from start to finish, how long does it take (roughly) to do the pump/pilot learn and pcm update?
reason for asking is i need to know whether i need to run 240v leads (2 leads actually as the van is parked in the street)out to the van to plug laptop charger in as i dont want the laptop dying on me halfway through!. still unsure as to how good the laptop battery is!
if the learn/updates only take a few mins it should be ok, but any longer and i`ll have to run the leads out :)

They are separate functions, you are always advised to have the van battery on charge and it goes without saying that the laptop wants to fully charged, on charge or with a good battery.

That said, I never put my van on charge, partly because I'm a rebel and partly because I have new batteries.

Anyway, the pcm update only takes a maximum of 15 mins iirc.
The pump learn takes longer.
The injectors learn takes longer too.
You should put a charger on your laptop tbh, you could fully charge it and play a film to see how long it lasts off charge, you could do 1 operation at a time and recharge the laptop in between.
Bit crazy tho :o

ok, i`ll run the leads out then to be on the safe side!
van batteries are both new (well 3 months old -"varta f18`s"), so they should be ok :D
do you normally get the engine up to "working" temp first or doesn`t it matter? thanks

The engine needs to reach the operating temperature for the pump/pilot learn, IDS will guide you through that.

It takes a while though, maybe 30–45 minutes if you start with a cold engine.

Just did it first time a couple of weeks ago late at night and pissed off all the neighbours.
Didn't have a clue how long it would take when I started
