Just been out and connected the battery neg to the starter body and got clicking, soon as I connected the spare battery to the jump point it fired up straight away.

Have got the van battery on charge now (was new a week ago) as it's taken a bit of a beating from me keep trying to start it

What size batty cable will I need to replace the main battery cable? Most seem to be 16mm or 25mm.
Will replace the earth leads at the same time
The other thing I'm considering is going to a twin battery set up on it like I have on my mk5, so 2 batteries in parallel under the seat

Fixed it!!!! :D :D 8)

Was just a dodgy earth in the end  so paid out on a starter and battery for nothing :x

Have made a temporary fix for now. I had an old jump lead in the garage where the clips had melted (small cheap jump leads are no good for jump starting a 3.0 V6 shogun  ) cut the one melted clip off, threaded the end through a hole in the floor, cable tied it to various places under the van, attached a replacement clip which I attached to the starter motor bolt, cable tied and taped into place so that it doesn't come off.

Have got some proper cable ordered, just need to fight my way into the garage later and find my box of battery terminals and rings. If I don't post again tonight send a search party!

Thanks for all the help, much appreciated. 8)
