which one to get?

Postby MRspivvy » Sat Jan 27, 2007 7:37 pm

It wont be for a while, but I am considering getting a 2000 onwards new type transit, I have seen them advertised with 2litre and 2.4 turbo diesels, what power outputs do they come in?which one is the best compromise between performance and economy? I am going to be looking at SWB low roof.

Do you carry much weight or tow often?
Amongst others on here I have a 75ps and I'm happy withn it. A bit slow on the steep hills that are a few miles long but still pulls a good 50mph. I get about 36mpg out of mine

i was thinking mabe go for an 100ps for a good balance between power and economy :D so any 100ps drivers any comments :?:

I found my mk4 70ps too slow as well, I was thinking along the lines of a 100ps if the fuel economy isnt too bad

the 125 isnt that good on fuel around 450 to the tank! but goes like a rocket for a van !and will sit happily at 85 -90 all day long! if you want it too
the 100ps is the best all rounder engine to have! :)

I've got a MK6 85hp and she is a little down on power but seems good on fuel. I will invest in a chip later as it would be like a 100hp. She cruises at 80 on the flat at the moment so can't complain.

Hi there,

I have a 100ps swb low roof van and i am well happy with it , the fuel economy was ok at about 450-475 miles to a tank before the bluefin.

After getting it chipped with bluefin its made it loads better on fuel 500-525 per tank, also the extra power has made it a brilliant performer!!
According to the bluefin specs my van now has 131bhp and nearly 300nm torque!!

The only downside is as mentioned earlier if your driving on the motorway with your foot flat to the floor ,watching the sprinters dissapear in the mirrors, then it really drinks the diesel . But as Nighthawk says Power needs fuel!!

cheers

Matt

I run a 52 plate 90 T350 MWB MHR which is the 2.4 turbo deisel, with a roof rack and ladders and the aircon which comes on even when demisting in this weather so I would say the aircon runs 70% of the time plus a 30-50% load and with carefull driving I get 27 mpg if you start to drive it faster it goes down to 24 I have monitored the fuel consumption from day 1 and given a great deal of thought to chipping it but in the end cant justify the outlay and the payback period is too long.

i'm presently running a lwb mk6 135 t350 rear wheel drive. Fuel economy not too bad but if you tow regularly it's scary in the wet. As for performance, all i can say is wow.
