Starts then stops, drives erratically when cold

Postby sam_transit » Tue Feb 13, 2007 3:46 am

Other than cleaning the EGR valve assembly (ive done that- it seems to work fine), does anyone know why my 2002 2.4 Diesel Transit stalls unless revved when first started, then drives very poorly (engine 'surges' almsot rythmically) until warmed up?

Any ideas greatfully received folks!

Cheers

what PS is it?

Could be a number of things depending on power output.

PCM calibrations
Sticking injectors
defective filter head
air ingress

etc

I have this same thing, engine will start easily when cold, and then just stop as if the fuel is not coming through, starts easily again though.

Also has what I think is injector noise around 2700 - 3000 rpm under load. Sort of tapping/clicking noise.

Mines just done 58,000 what yours? Im thinking injectors are worn, or fuel filter needs changing (service).

Seems to be common reading on here. Probaly just needs a service.

What is "PCM calibrations" anyway?

Hi, its a 125

Just got to 300,000 Kilometers, which I know is a lot, but it drives great apart from this real pain business when first started.

I think I'll swap the fuel filter as a start, but apart from air ingress, I can't see why this would really help?

Ford Australia seem pretty useless :-(
