heater matrix pipes?

Postby belly » Fri Feb 16, 2007 10:28 pm

cleaning my van this afty i did a quick wash around the engine bay and check around , i noticed the two water pipes that go into the heater matrix have a clip missing :? the one that attaches to the black airbox above the rocker top area o/s , so one of the hoses has been rubbing on the engine and has worn a weak point in it  ok fine i will buy a new hose and clip from the stealers tomoz but how do those pipes come off ? i noticed a traditional jubilee at one end but at the matrix end it looks like a special fitting maybe a push fitting is that correct ? and if i do it is the coolant system a pressurised system like a lot of froggy stuff ie having to bleed lots ? or just top up and run? cheers :D oh yeh its a fwd mk6

if your changing the pipe, don't worry about trying to undo the quick release clip on the end. Get a small pair of wire cutters and snip the thin black bars out if it and pull the pipe off.

you'll be left with the white clip still on the metal pipe, you can pull that off easily.

The correct way to remove them involves a special tool and twisting the white section 90 degrees.

Nah, fill it slowly and squeeze random hoses with bends in them and it should be ok.

Once all the coolant is in, give it a drive and the degas circuit will remove any air after the stat has opened.

I'n an ideal world, you'd pull a vacuum in the system and allow it's dissapation to draw the coolant in.
