Reversing Sensors.

Postby olympia5776 » Sat Mar 17, 2007 3:39 pm

After a near miss this morning I'd like to fit parking sensors. There are a selection on E bay for not a lot of money but my question is has anybody fitted them to a MK 6 swb with no step or hitch ? Is there enough space between the plastic bumper and the rear metal valance?

Cheers
Don

I do these a lot - I fitted a set to a zafira this morning - they don't need a lot of space behind so no problem - or you can get kits with flush fitting sensors that don't need holes cut

not too hard to do - display on the dash - all the other wiring is done at the rear - obviously less trim in the transit but the zafira took an hour and a bit - if you've got a tow bar you'll have to get a tow bar compatable kit

I think the bumper set up on the Mk6 is identical to the Mk7. In that case there is almost no space in between your bumper and the chassis. That is as well why Ford doesn't fit them unless you take a bumper with step.
However there is more room behind the bumper on the corner bits. Or you can indeed put the sensors on top of the bumper instead of buid-in.

Camera can be an option as well.

I have fitted a set to my MK 7 and there are holes in the metal bumper that sit behind the plastic outer skin and ther was loads of room as they are only about 25 mm deep

Thanks lads . :D
Ordered a kit from eE bay , the audible one instead of the cheaper indicator one.
Great to be able to get info off this site and hope I can contribute in the future.

No clearily said it couldn't be done without drilling holes and that that was not advisable with respect to guarantee/rust etc.

they'd only be drilling the bumper and the rust guarantee wouldn't extent to that anyway - see an independant installer - they'll take it on no problem :D

Sounds expensive and where do you fit the camera on a Mk6.

£200 all in, not sure where on a mk6, could possibly put on the top of the door.
I'm lucky really, I 've a roller door on mine, just fastened it to the top above the door.

If you want something a little neater and not able to be knocked off or ripped off then try this

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... &rd=1&rd=1

Same size as the lock unit, so if you place it on the passenger door you will have to drill a hole, the head is able to be angled and already reverses the image so it will appear as if you have a mirror. This seller has a few other options as well if you look at their other items.
