M5 wheels on my Mk6

Picked up some M5 wheels for free, and managed to source 3 new tyres, and 1 worn tyre for nothing too.
So thought It'd be rude not to have a shot at making some adapter plates to fit them to my van.




As the offset on the BMW wheels is more than that standard Transit wheels, I really didn't want to go bolting 30mm adapter plates on as it'd make the track too wide to get through any of the width restrictions around my area.




Ive got some custom centre cap sticker coming for them. I don't think I will bother re-furbing them, I will just get used to driving the van with big wheels, and just keep an eye out for some X5 wheels.

have you drilled the rears as well?
and i assume tapped for bmw wheel nuts/studs
proberbly get someone say in a bit that the wheels/tyres wont be up to the weight of a loaded transit

Good job of making them fit just be carefull the bmw wheels especially the 17 and 18s are weak as hell they crack on the inside edge iv welded a few up where I used to work
Also as jay says I doubt they do ply rated tyres for those wheels vosa or PC plod can do you of its the same as a bald tyre there's 12 points there and there probably not load rated either

18" tyres, no different to Sport-van tyres.
I agree, the rims aren't the same load rating, but the van is never loaded up, like ever. It's my daily drive, so weighs about the same as a Mondeo most of the time.


No tapped, drilled to 12.7mm (1/2") and Mondeo studs pressed in from behind (with Mondeo nuts, which are the same as BMW fitment = 60'degree taper) I didn't want BMW bolts, I wanted studs and nuts.

Not done the rears yet, but cant see them being much different.

Carefull mind , if the wheels aren't designed to take the weight you would be driving illegally.

Just be carfull a sport van is under 3 tonne so it goes through a car mot but anything bigger will have a class 7 the tyres and wheels should be checked to be load rated and have a ply rating regardless of what you do or don't put in it
vosa and the police will also know that there forever having days of pulling vans in down our way and they will pull the van off the Road there and then !

The wheels should have the load rating on the inside of the wheel

One of the company's I work for had a set of wheels on one of there limos that where something silly like 2 kilos under the weight of the vehicle vosa went nuts they got in a lot of trouble and it was off the road till they found another set from America to fit that where within the limits

My van is not class 7 either. It's a standard Class 4 vehicle.

We'll see how it goes. As I said, I will probably lean towards X5 wheels, or something else with a 5x120 pattern once it's all up and running on these new hubs.
The M-sport wheels came to me for free, as did the tyres.

X5 wheels would be better as there load rating is as high as sport vans alloys.. A good idea to drill and fit mondeo studs which will work on a transit like you done..only problem i can see is getting the place who drills them accurate enough to make no wobble...or have you done these yourself?..I know i would give it a go as if you mess it up easy enough to get another hub..

My mate Pete has done it with me in his workshop.

He has clocked the hubs up into his milling machine, and put a 5 x 120 PCD into the digital unit, which has marked out the holes to within 0.005mm, so pretty accurate.

He's drilled 5 12.7mm holes, with 5mm counter bores on the back, to sit the backs of the studs flush with the hub, so the discs will still bolt up flush.

Rear hubs arrived today. Looks like they could be a little trickier. I didn't realize the drum was so thick! I wont be running Mondeo rear studs on the rear, I will be running the OEM Transit (m14) studs, with some tapered nuts I've bought from ebay.
I think the drum will need to be turned out slightly, so the new studs sit in the circular cut out of the drum. I will then use the old front transit wheel studs, pressed back into the 160pcd holes to act as locaters/pegs to hold the drum to the hub. I will chop them down so they sit flush with the drum face.

And then for the 8mm deep recess around the inside of the drum, I will turn out two alloy circular plates I think, to give the BMW wheels something to face up against, otherwise they will be sitting on a big area of hollowness.

take pics of how the ears are done as i think many others might go down this route as might be cheaper than adaptor hubs..
