Garage servicing, worth it or not?

At the end of April I'm going to have to get the transit MOTed, and according to the log book, it's due for a service ( just past 104,000) In years gone but i used to service my own cars myself as long as it wasn't anything major. The only thing is, I've not played about with a diesel before, Is there anything that I need to consider? Or can I just get by with the standard filter and fluid changes?
One other thing, there's a hissing noise a high revs, ( sounds like air leaking out of a tyre) After a bit of study Ive found that the problem might well be induction hoses, with the solution being 'changes them'. Difficult or not?

I use to service my mk6 after warranty ran out filter,fluids, brakes, lights make sure you dont try and replace discs you need to press bearings out otherwise no problem

Funnily enough my mk6 is on about 104.5k, and could probably do with a service in the next few k. Even thhough I've never really worked on a car/van before I'm thinking about doing it myself to save money and also the inconvenience of taking it to a garage. Is there any kinda checklist/guide about?

Done my mk6 today, im not all that at mechanic and got my old man to help me. It was a piece of piss to do.
All in all, took about an hour.
Fuel filter, engine flush, air filter, oil filter and pollen filter cost 31notes.
New oil cost 30notes.
