Order Dec 06, delivery Sep 07

Postby spospe » Fri Apr 20, 2007 8:02 pm

Just a query, so as to get a 'feel' for what is right.

I am having a motorcaravan built on a new Transit by Autosleepers (Britain's oldest established converters).

The order was placed with Autosleepers just before Christmas 2006 and I have just had a call from the dealer saying that they expect delivery (to them) by mid-September 2007.

The Transit itself has been ordered with, passenger airbag, cab air-con and traction assist, the conversion is the normal Autosleepers Duetto model.

Autosleepers blame Ford and by the way me (because of the specification of the Transit) for the delay.

What do readers of this forum think of the delivery time, is it normal?

Thanks for any feedback ...... Michael

I know that the converters of my van are waiting for delivery of their first Mark 7s with lifthatch doors. Apparently Ford have not made any lifthatches since Mk 7 production commenced in mid '06.
They've had to convert Mk 7 demonstrators and customer vans with barn doors where the customer was happy with them as an alternative.
In chatting they told me that Fords aren't the only van maker with supply problems as they understood that Fiat/Peugeot/Citroen vans are in short supply as well.
Mind you there seems to be a rash of Royal Mail Mk 7s spreading across the country so I guess Ford are busy supplying the big boys and the smaller order/specials go to the back of the queue.
I'm not a Duetto fan myself as there's nowhere to put dogs in safety and you can't really clear it out and use it to transport furniture etc, but I wish you joy with it, eventually.

Dear mikeouk

I placed my order before Christmas 2006 (see original post), do you still think that 9 months is a reasonable time?

It's not reasonable but it is how long it is taking for Ford to deliver!

Hello there.

We have a Duetto as well. We ordered 17/10/04 and took delivery on 05/05/05, so almost 7 months. (it was promised to be ready for 1/3/05)

We could have had a standard silver one in a week as there were some stock vehicles available, but decided on a few options, the main one being a special order colour.

If you want, I can fill you in a bit more in detail about what happened, as some of it is quite funny.
