Mk7 2.2, died on way to work! ggrrrrr

Postby acoustimick » Thu Oct 30, 2014 9:47 am

Any ideas guys on why the orange cog with ! in middle is now on, and I seem to be in limp mode? There has just prior to this, a warning sign lit showing something with fuel I think for a little while, but now that's off, and the cog light is on. VAn no power.
Been reading furiously on here as to some possibilities, and much is pointing to EGR. Now, since I don't have a manual on this van, does anyone have any pics, diagrams etc on this, showing where to look and what to look for? (ok, I sound like a knob for askin such a dumb question, but Im handier than most) I am capable of fixing most things mechanical, if I know where to look, and what to look for.
This has already cost me over £100 in lost wages, and its only 8:40 am ! So need to try and fix asap.....its my only transport.
Have to add, its a great van, no issues at all other than this. Been doing a lot of heavy motorway miles recently tho.

would greatly appreciate any hints, tips, pics, and skits on any possible quick fixes. Fills me with dread to have to go to the feckin stealers!!

cheers
Mick

Cheers walt. On further googling, I may try the filter 1st. Got one being delivered within the next few hrs from local supplier. Im `stuck` in Kilsyth area, (central Scotland, just to mention lol)

If this doesn't work, then might need to look again.

Pics would be great man.

cheers

ps.....why is there no repair manual available for this vehicle??

Before u change the filter have a quick search on here. I think u have to fill the filter up with fresh diesal before fitting it to the housing.
Should be a manual by now mk7 been out since 2006.

OK guys, a little help required here pleeeease.

Fitted new fuel filter, old one had some gunge in it, no difference so far. Running some injector cleaner thru it just now, no diff` so far. Powertrain light still on. Had codes read, came back with code No`s 0091 and 0089.....both indicating fuel pressure sensor. Altho im sure it read `short circuit to ground` on one of these, as I glanced over the guys shoulder. The EGR valve seems to be ok, and isn't showing up as a fault. That garage however couldn't do much more, but recommended, reluctantly, another fuel specialist up this area, who has a fearsome reputation as a shark and conman, even among other traders. So, altho he is the only one in the area, im waiting to see if any other options pop up. Van is running, but on a reduced power. Not so limp as it was this morning at 6 am tho. Now I can get to 50/60....but that's it. When slowing to a stop, the engine chatters a little, like an injector is sticking? Fuel consumption has been quite high of late now that I think of it!

also bought a Haynes manual too lol !

Any techies out there wanna thru there bit in.....id be really greatful...
thnx,
Mick

Cheers Karl

I have just bought a Haynes manual for this van....what a waste of money....no help in here whatsoever!
It doesn't mention anywhere in the book about these two valves....so, I dunno where they are, or what they are. Can I change them? Does it need a garage?

Bear in mind the codes did say fuel pressure control.

Im kinda hoping the fuel cleaner might ease things a bit, but its a long shot for a short diy mechanic like me. The old filter was badly choked, and may have thrown some sh*t into the system.

Hi Mick
This is gonna sound a bit arse about face. Top right is an ad for Vantuner, he has an agent in Glasgow (poss Edinburgh),
Dan who is sh*t hot on Transits, so phone Martyn (Vantuner in west London) on 07956 555 666, explain your problem and ask for Dan's number.
Dan is on here but I can't remember/find his forum name, so long way round I know, but it'll get your problem solved.
(Martyn is often on here so may well have read this anyway)

You can fit the prv and the scv yourself, but they need calibrated using Ford ids.
Dan can do this for you :)

The scv is fixed to the fuel pump, two screws and a plug
The prv is screwed into the end of the fuel rail, and has one outlet pipe connected to it

Cheers again Ake

sounds more simple than I thought then. Last question.....will it run at all if I fit them myself, as in to get to someone who can calibrate?. Or, if I fit them, is that it stopped until calibration? If I know, I can make a decision on how to approach the repair better.

thnx mate.
