MK7 2.4 115, noise on engine switch off, MAP/MAF

Postby kobe » Sun Dec 28, 2014 5:30 pm

just bought a 2008 MK7 115 2.4 RWD ( viewtopic.php?f=5&t=154052 )

Image

one puzzling thing, on switching off the engine there's a slightly strange noise about 2-3 seconds after the engine stops as if something else within the engine is still rotating/coming to a stop. it's not the belts as far as I can see .
Anyone come across this before? here's a vid of the sound which can be heard about 3 seconds in..
(click on this video thumbnail )

I'll shortly be doing a few servicing jobs, including oil+filters, PRV/SCV , IDS learn etc and I also hope to clean the MAF & MAP sensors.

is this the MAF?

and this the MAP?

understand the MAP sensor gets sooted up, what's a good chemical to clean without damaging?
does the MAF similarly need a clean or any other servicing?

finally, the van is a bit hesitant when cold and accelerating upto about 2000-2300 RPM, nothing drastic but can feel the enging not pulling smoothly, is this a know issue ?

Noise on shutdown is the egr self cleaning itself.
Maf is on pipe from air filter, map is on ally pipe by inlet manifold.

You should consider doing a pcm update and pump/injectors learns to smooth the engine out.
Consider cleaning the inkjet manifold out etc.
Good service too if not done.

thanks Loot,
so the EGR valve cleaning sound is something I should expect to hear at every engine shut down? never did the on my '56 115 mk7.

I was hoping to get in touch with you as it happens (if you remember you did the PRV/SCV & IDS on my '56 115 last March).
Hope to arrange same thing on this van if you have a bit of spare time ?

I'll remember you when i see you, my apologies as I've done lots of them
I can do them if you like, if you pm me when you want them doing and we'll sort it out.
Can't tell if your prv/scv need doing until the day tho so if you want to get them and keep the receipt or something?
:-)

Ps egr will do that if it needs to, mine doesn't tho, may be wearing out slowly but could last ages, also could be the maf/map signal slightly out causing it to clean the egr but that is not something i can be sure of(most likely the pot in the egr head) :o

Pps. Are you the chap that makes the knives?

Thanks loot, will get in touch via pm to arrange, may be a few weeks if that's ok.
No don't sell knives!! Do you recall checking my van out against yours for the switch on the sliding door, ohh and we lost a socket down the suspension!!

To be honest as my last visit would just change prv/scv as a matter of course if possible, seems to sort out all sorts of hassles and is practically a service item I reckon .

Any advice on what to use to clean the MAP? Is there anything recommended to service or clean on the MAF?

Thanks
