Postby thunderider » Sat May 05, 2007 11:49 am

after the vac pump knackerin the engine, replace the turbo, replace the fuel pump, cured persistant water leaks, then replace the rad,the water pump,i think, spat its dummy out yesterday, its only 6 months old,so got it to have it replaced under gaurentee, the AA mad said its got a crack or a hole in the casting?,but he put some stuff in the engine to get me home,so now its stopped leaking, but dont want to temp fate so getting it changed, but the bloke at the garage recons the whole of the front of the van has to come off to remove the water pump,mk6,but as its at the front of the engine cant t just be removed with out taking the front off the van off? or are the playing for more labour dosh?

If your van is under guarantee, I hope the stuff the AA put in it hasn't invalidated the guatantee, you know how Ford like to get out of these things! As fot what it takes to put the pump on, they could be right, I wouldn't know as you cando practically anything you like on a Mk2, with a couple of screwdrivers and a 13mm spanner!

I don't get what your saying m8 :(

Have they told you the front panel needs to come out to replace the water pump? If so, thats not true as both the fwd and rwd engines can have the water pumps replaced in under 2 hours.

Nighthawk, come on mate, you can't honestly say it would be cheaper to go to a ford dealer than to get the same job done at a smaller garage.

You can if the Garage don't know what they are doing, and try and charge you for more labour then the job should take.

Well obviously i wasn't talking about some random garage! BUT if the van is still under guarantee, maybe Ford wouldn't be a bad move after all.

but i don't need a garage to get a water pump done, so i'm quids in all the way :D

I remember looking at an 03 plate 260s for a friend after a so called ford specialist had spent a week messing about with a gear change concern. they'd replaced the clutch and hydraulics and still had the problem along with a huge bill.

20mins and a gray gear cable later he was back on the road.

Something positive about a MK6 :D (other than they drive a bit quieter than a MK5)
