Wheel Align a Mk6

Postby emmsee » Sun Feb 22, 2015 3:29 pm

With no knowledge I took my 2002 MK6 rwd Cab Chassis 2.4 tddi to a tyre shop for a wheel alignment - she was pulling left.

2 1/2 hours later I drove away with her still pulling left - no cost for failing.

I now find, from the Haynes manual, that Transits can't be wheel aligned.

If not, how do I eradicate the pulling left?
cheers

First, throw away the Haynes manual, it's wrong.

Then check all suspension components, broken coils will cause pull, as will collapsed bushes, bent bottom arms etc etc

If all of the above seems to be okay, do your self a favor and unbolt both wheels.
Bolt them back on the opposite sides.

See how you get on. If it starts to pull the other way, then you have a tyre issue. Sometimes a tyre with a considerably softer sidewall construction can cause a natural pull.

The newer machines don't always get it right but the old ones, well you can't really go wrong.

Thanks for all your suggestions.
I have the Transit going in on Thursday for new Injectors and have given the mechanic your list of suggestions re the pulling to the left to test.
Will let you know the outcome.
cheers

Are the tyres on the from the same both sides? Also worth checking the tyre pressures and tread depth.

Changed the tyres to opposite sides and hey presto - not pulling any more!

Thanks everyone for your advice.
