DTC P121c injector leaking after replacing PRV and SCV

Postby Vikane » Sun Apr 26, 2015 4:08 pm

Replaced both pressure reliefe valve and suction control valve today, going to dealer tomorrow for IDS learning process.
P121c, injector leaking dtc has come upp after this, I guess this is because of the new valves, and will disappear after the IDS process ?

The p121c code comes back immediately after clearing, when pushing the throttle pedal.

Were the valves genuine good quality denso? I've a vague recollection that this happened when i tried doing a pump learn on a members van that had crap valves fitted, had to swap back in the end :-(
It could be a bad connection or losing rail pressure or the learns/counters not reset (i don't often see this dtc tho)

I'd double check your work and make sure the seals are correct and not got caught etc.

Consider rechecking all the connectors and injector connectors etc. Finally you may want to swap valves back and see if the code clears.

It's arse i know but if you take it to Ford to get the updates, it's 5050 whether they can clear the fault and do the updates, then there's the issue of whether they will charge you for it too?

Could be something else also.

Thanks for help loot :)

Both valves was bought from transitparts.co.uk

The SCV was a Mitsubisgi part, the PRV was unmarked, have I made a mistake ? Mitsubishi should be an trusted part, or ?

I did notice that the PRV came out in "peaces" , the new one had all parts "fitted" in the valve, should it be like that ?

I will check all connectors and pipes for the injectors, and maybe reinstall the old PRV and se whats happening. I hope the Mitsubishi SCV is ok....

I'm not sure tbh, the ones i saw were denso but clearly didn't work, since then we believe that there are ppl reselling cleaned up used ones or crap copies, just not sure?

If there doesn't appear to be anything untoward with the pipes/connectors etc then if you know you didn't have that dtc before changing them then if it was me I'd be tempted to swap the valves back just to check if the fault goes away.

I have ids so it's not a problem for me to check but I'm just thinking about you not having a wasted journey to Ford that's all.
Not sure what reader you have but i would have thought that any codes would have gone away when cleared.

Imho i would buy them from Ford myself as i know they are genuine and can send them back etc.

The p121c code was not there before, and it also goes into limp mode with this code.

The SCV will cost me about £270.00 in Norway at Ford, on ebay the are sold for about £70.00, that is why I did what I did.

I thought transitparts.co.uk was a good place to buy parts, maybe I was wrong :(

There is a chance the valves are OK but you need to diagnose the fault tbh, it could be something simple but until you check the above then your stuck :-(
If the valves are faulty then transitpartscouk will probably swap them for good ones.

I reinstalled the old prv and the problem is gone.

Do I go to Ford and do the IDS learn with the old, or is it absolutely required to replace this also ?

A picture shows the difference between the old and the new, on the new -the "piston" is absolutely stuck, this is free on the old.

The prv should be in 1 piece, if yours has popped then it needs replacing imo, it is usually the scv that causes over pressurising of the rail which then blows the prv, good quality items need fitting and then the learns etc.
There is a slim chance that the new prv is emphasising a problem with the injector as it is keeping the rail pressure up now, but there's also a pilot hole in the prv and inside is a sprung bearing which is obviously there for a reason but may be stuck etc on the new 1?

Ok, I will install a new prv tomorrow and see what happens.
It is a chance I will have to use the IDS myself, is it a complicated process, and is there a guide for this somewhere ?

Loads of bits on the forum, I'll try and recap. :-)
1 connect to van.
2 identify job
3 self test and look for dtc/make a note then delete dtc.
4 toolbox/last option-powertrain iirc, service functions.
5 near the bottom options will be 2x clear prv set counter and clear prv open duration-do them.
6 2nd from top option is fuel pump pilot learn(very top option is to check injector codes) *
7 3rd from top option fuel injectors learn.

If they succeed and the van is sweet then great.
If they fail then try again upto 3 times.

You may need to come back here for more help if you can't do the learns at all.

You can optionally do a pcm update( if you choose to do this then do it first /checks for dtc but you can clear them in self test)
1 toolbox/module programming/module reprogramming/pcm.

Spot the Turkish fake PRV !

Tightened up correctly they foul the seating washer and you may not get correct fuel pressure. The piston is actually longer! Sold by transit parts co uk as genuine units & also PF jones whose have Ford part numbers cheaply printed onto boxes.

Font on valve body ID numbers differ to original
Piston is darker colour.
