TURBO DIFFERENCES ?

Postby martynx » Thu May 17, 2007 11:16 pm

Ive noticed that Mk6 tddi turbo's are conveniently marked with their power ratings ( & engine size ) by a sticker on the top. My 100ps FWD 2.0 fror expample reads 10020 & my 90ps RWD 2.4 reads 09024 gives the game away niceley..!

As the units look externally the same what are the diffrences ? is it just wastegate opening time & therefore a higher boost "setting " on the higher power rated ones ?

I appreciate front wheel drives are different overall to rear wheel drives & that increasing boost to raise power safely would require remapping to increase fuelling etc -

The wastegates arent electronically controlled ( they are controlled simply by a pnuematic valve via pressure from the compressor side of the turbo ) so therefore boost isnt controlled directly by the ECU.. from 75ps to what is is 115 ? sureley boost must come into it ?

Some wastegate valve rods are adustable , tempting isnt it ? 8)

A simple re-map will do

NEVER interfere with the wastegate on a vehicle with an ECU :!:

Hypothetically If you had a 85ps & put a map in it from a say a 115 along with a turbo from a 115 then you'd get the 115 i guess.. the intercoolers look the same , the pumps are all Bosch Vp30's ? with diffrent settings..

My idea is that instead of getting a 115 turbo ( expensive ) match the wastegate setting to the 115 spec., provided the units are the same other wise.

Fair enough if it isnt possible, its just that the wastegate system looks so old school simple .. im just wondering if the wastegate setting (& therefore the physical boost setting ) is the limiting factor.

I guess one of these would save any messing around with springs & stuff

What is the highest tddi output anyway on a 2.0 ?

No, no, no :!:

JUST A RE-MAP :!: :!:

The turbo/wategate etc takes care of itself :!:

The ECU does actually read how much boost there is :!:

If it's too low or too high, it will put the vehicle into "Limp Home Mode" :(

It's the large roundabout at the end of Windsor Street.

It used to have a large hardware store called 'Mahjacks' in the middle, but now has a large nondescript office block

Nope.

It's the southern end of Windsor St.
Has about 6 sets of traffic lights going round it, and Kwik fit are on the south eastern corner.
You wouldn't want to park anywhere on it

Couldn't remember their name, that's it, Morrelli's.
They were right next door to Mahjacks.

Morrelli's were moved to the Wallingford Road industrial estate, but I don't know what happened to Mahjacks. probably suffered the same fate as most hardware shops .................................. gone
