rear brake pads

Postby andy 63 » Fri May 22, 2015 9:15 am

just been to dealer to get the gear for replacing the rear discs.. its a rwd mk7 on an 08 plate..
the pads have come with only one wear sensor... ive queried it with them and they say that is right.. you no longer fit a wear sensor on both sides but install something he called a blanking wire and plug on the opposite side... sounds odd so thought I would ask if anyone else has come across this...
apologies if its been covered before I didn't do a search...

sounds correct, they are all just an earth loop to the speedo and when 1 gets cut by the disk it breaks the earth and the warning lamp comes on.

You replace both sides when your pads are worn so it's kind of pointless having both sides, if you don't have the loop then you can make 1 from an old sensor wire by cutting an inch away from the plug and joining the wires then sealing them.

If your old sensors are in good condition, you can reuse them, i find that the plastic bit which goes into the pad tends to become brittle and breaks when you remove it :-(

Some aftermarket sellers sell both and some give you none:-(
You could probably buy them separately from Ford.

Ps. If you wanted both sides in case the opposite side wore out first and scratching the disk then you might have a problem and your calipers etc want freeing up/servicing.

thanks loot, was back at dealers and they confirmed you only get one sensor.. the other side is just a loop as per your picture..
I managed to get the nearside disc replaced today.. got started at 12 when I got my 65mm socket.. by 5 I had one side done and back on... just one 50 torx bit smashed so would have to say it went ok... will be pleased if the other side goes as well lol...
thanks again
