Spray painting

Hi, looking for some advice on painting two new front wings on my 2002 ford transit 350, I am just going to spray the wings but the paint on the doors and bonnet are flat how do I bring them up to the colour as the wings. I am going to use cellulose paint do I use a clear lacquer and if so will I coat the doors and bonnet with it.

What colour is the van?
Existing paint can be cut then polished.
I use a buffing machine and farecla g3 compounding paste and a little water. Then any polish but i have mer polish at the moment.

Lacquer is only for metallic colours.

The van is white, will I need to use a clear lacquer.

Just half litre of diamond white should do, i use 2 pack but cellulose and thinners should be OK

Don't forget to wait a little bit between coats and allow it to pool before spraying to a shine or you may get runs
(That's if you are using a gun not rattle cans)

Halfords diamond white is a good match, I used it with grey primer and its bang on. I would use a clear lacquer or topcoat though and leave it to harden

If you have not bought the paint yet get single pack acrylic rather that celli, its far less work as it will not need buffing when dry to give a good shine and is almost as good as 2 pack acrylic without the poisonous hardener.
celli can react with the acrylic paint already on the van and give you a crazed wrinkled edge.

I have bought the cellulose paint and I am going to try spray gun.

if new wings use thinners to remove the transit primer( crap stuff on when bought)

rub down with 320 grit to key

prime (celli primer), rub down to get it smooth

will need at least 3 coats of celli with a light rub down between coats when dry with fine wet and dry paper

then when fully dry will need wet flatting then buffing with lambswool mop to get the shine,


a lot of hard work

if just doing up your wings do a test spot as it can react.
