2.4 not starting

Hi I am a new member on here but please be patient.

I have a MK7 350/115 high top.

I bought the van 18 months ago and have had no problems apart from the EGR valve which I blanked off!

Yesterday I started the van up reversed up to my trailer and hitched it up and went round the block and parked up outside my house to have a brew before I went off. On going back to the van it would not start and was turning over quickly as if there was no compression. I googled this and this forum came up with a few hits so I thought I would give it a go to see if anyone has any ideas.

My thought was it was the timing chain but I have removed the plastic cover on the timing chain cover which I believe gives access to the fuel pump. The chain appears to be intact and seems to rotate when the engine is turned over..

Any other possibilities? I know this may be expensive.

Have you got any warning lights on the dash ?

Start by checking all your fuses.

Next, while your under the bonnet for the engine bay fuses, see if any of the electrical connectors are off.
If their ok then disconnect them to see if they are like these viewtopic.php?f=5&t=159550&start=30#p1348909

Only proper answer is of course to get the fault codes read with IDS.

If your near a member on this map drop them a message and see if they can help.

RAC or AA ? get a patrol out to look at it, they will have a code reader - get them written down and report back. Don't try to remember them because if your wrong it wastes everyone's time.

Most common cause of poor starting on MK 7 is crank sensor.
