A local Transit repair specialist, also a forum member, has a Mk7 in for repair. The van is a FWD 2.2 and has a seized engine, the owner of the vehicle is keen to have the Mtdi conversion fitted and given that the engine needs replacement this is the ideal opportunity.
The repairer responsible for carrying out the engine installation has provided us with parts from the removed 2.2 engine together with a 2.0 Tddi replacement, he is also assisting with development of this conversion.
The idea is to re-use as many of the external components from the 2.2 as possible, simply replacing the block/head assembly with that of a 2.0. A number of 'adapter parts' will be required, once development is complete then these parts will be made available in 'kit' form to compliment the Mtdi pump conversion. A number of the 2.2 parts we need to swap to the 2.0 are a simple bolt on replacement, the exhaust manifold and turbo fit directly to the 2.0 cylinder head;
Some slight modification had to be carried out to the oil feed/return pipes.
The 2.2 crankshaft pulley fits to the 2.0 engine;
The pulley from the rear of the camshaft has been removed;
The 2.2 Vac pump and water outlet fits directly to the 2.0 head;
