Rear brakes making a racket

My rear brakes are making a right racket so i will be replacing the shoes are they straightforward to do and do they need any special tools to do them thanks

Must be a mk6 if you've got rear drums.

Need some more details, like front or rear wheel drive.
If it's rear wheel drive which axle.

Hi yeh sorry its a mk6 fwd

You shouldn't need any special tools on a fwd.

Worst part is releasing the brake adjuster, access is through a hole in the backplate.
