Clock change or just a new face.

So I need to change my speedo from KPH to MPH, when I get my van the end of next week.

Is it best to just take the binnacle to bits and replace the face, or clock change with second hand unit? Would I need it to be programmed with FORD IDS?

I suspect that changing just the face will read wrong.

Yes change complete unit then program to vehicle via Ford IDS

There is an option for miles/kph in ids i think but that is probably just for trip

So I could put second hand clocks in but would they be best coming from a 2.2 140ps model (same as mine), or does it not matter as they can all be programmed on IDS?

So I download software and programme the clocks once on the vehicle with IDS?

Some high miles clocks on ebay and I have heard you can put them back to your own miles, as it is stored on ECU?

Will the second hand clocks still read the odometer in km's? Not the end of the world as I just need it to get through mutual recognition and MOT. Needs speedo in mph to do this.

You can only increase miles with IDS not decrease

Thanks Blue estate, so I need to get clocks with miles near or below mine.

Starting to think I might get a face plate and then just live with the odometer in km's. Seems the easiest solution.

In my wife's focus, you can change between kms and miles!

I believe the uk clocks should work as is and no need to program since they are a module in themselves, but if the van is lhd or continental then you may have to change the bcm config to mph somewhere.
Not having actually done this I'm hypothesising but if the clocks take their readings from the can bus and from the bcm then i believe the signal comes from the bcm and should in theory need to be told it is mph.
This may also mean that if this is correct then you may want to try it on your clocks to see if the needle points accurately to the mph marks in stead of the kph marks.

But i don't really know


I have an update available for my clocks but it just won't install it, you should use the same clocks you have which i lessons are the ones with the red band in the Rev counter, that is if you plan on changing them.
If you have the low spec ones then it is easier to replace them like for like, you can install the high spec ones but you need to also change the indicator stalk because yours won't have the trip functions etc.

Thanks Van Tuner, I have just checked the spec and it has a trip computer. So if I look for the red mark they should be a straight swap.

We just don't know whether it will stay in kph or go to mph. If I can get clocks from breakers for £20 -£30 squid, that will be cheaper than a new face.

Just looking on flea bay and I can see that there are different versions of the same. Some have Red marks on rev counter from 4.5 k onwards, so I guess these are the correct ones.

The earlier ones pre hill start assist 56-08(rough year) were green, then after that they are red.

If they have 2 buttons in the middle of the screen then they are lcd display low spec with clock and trip reset buttons.
If they have no buttons then they are dot matrix led display hough spec clocks with menu functions, information display and the trip buttons are on the indicator stalk which needs to be wired to the speedo to get them to work.
If you have buttons then you should get buttons (that's if you just want to plug it in and off you go)
