Whose fitted a reversing cam & screen?

Postby motovanner » Thu Jul 02, 2015 11:08 pm

Wanting to fit a high level reverse view cam above the back doors linked to a screen mounted where you d normally find the rear view mirror at top of windscreen.

Anyone done this and can recommend a decent cam / screen setup?

Many thanks

Mk6 or Mk7 ?

If you have the high level brake light find a small camera you can mount in the light, then you don't have to drill a hole in the door.
mk7 08reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD
mk6 X reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD - scrapped
mk4 J reg 2.5 L300 LWB MHR RWD - sold on

Notice a trend there ? not too big and not too small

Got the standard biggish camera and monitor on works van and is fine. Turn the screen on and it has 2 inputs so 2 different cameras or whatever you choose. I think for a reversing cam the quality of the ebay ones are fine specially given the price. Just make sure the cable is long enough depending what length van you have, you may need another extension cable to reach from the camera to monitor

Terrible image but the camera actually is a lot clearer than that in person. I got this one, http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/nikkai-colour ... -tvl-a31kc

You might need a bracket to see your bum

Hi
I had my screen mounted as you suggest but found that the light through the windscreenscreen 'washed out' the monitor picture, so I suggest mounting it somewhere it has a dark background.
You don't say if you want to use it as a rear view mirror or a reversing camera. I have my 'rear view mirror' one mounted on the roof. I used to do a lot of towing so mounted the 'reversing' one down by the number plate, so I can see the towball. I believe BJT has his on the roof looking down on the rear bumper. The doors have a curve near the top so he needs a bracket to move the camera far enough back.
