Ancillary live cable from jump point melted

Postby sjs205 » Sat Jul 11, 2015 8:49 pm

Hello all,

Just started my van for the first time today, and smoke started billowing out from under the bonnet. I had a look and found it to be the small live wire from the jump lead point. The wire melted. So I fixed it and started it again and it melted where I soldered it.

Anyone know what this wire is for? Glow plugs?

Somebody bumped the side door of the van today, could it be anything to do with this?

Many thanks all

Steven

I had the exact same thing the other day, it's the fusible link for the glow plugs

Yes, pulled out the glow plug relay and it fixed it.

I believe the problem is the glow plug lead behind the air box has probably shorted. I'll have a look when I get a chance... Will Probably forget until winter ;)

More likely to be a glow plug shorted, mine did exactly the same a few weeks back. I just cut out that wire and re-taped the loom so it was never there :P
