2.4tdci 115.. turbo and intercooler questions

hi all.... been poking about and looking at tuning things, my 115 has currently got superchips Bluefin which is now running at 155bhp so im told, how close this is I don't know...

anyway ive found an intercooler here http://www.autospecialists.co.uk/Transit-Intercooler-upgrade---fits-front-and-rear-wheel-drive--Product-1280.html# and have been looking at hybrid turbos.. this is more for my long term plan with the truck really..

now I get the feeling the standard turbo is pretty much non hybrid-able.... sooooooo if the landrover is running a vnt wouldn't it be possible to fit the exhaust manifold off a land rover then find a better turbo to fit on that flange ( a non vnt one of course ) ?? I cant seem to find any info on it as there seems to be no end of people who are prepared to tune the 2,4 when its in the land rover.. has anyone done such a conversion or know if its possible... I cant find a picture of the landrover exhaust manifold to see if it looks remotely similar.. any help of ideas on this, I cant see why 180 bhp with some good torque wouldn't be available with some bigger injectors and a good map / dyno set up . .

anyways.. I have updated my truck progress report recentlyish.. so have a look had full air suspension fitted and done some other bits to it..

TBH I'd be more than a little worried whether the bottom end of the 2.4 could handle 180+hp. There's no doubt it could probably be done of course....but... There have been horror stories of people throwing rods with just 100ps engines. Many have remaps for much higher hp too so I may just be talking shite... I'm sure the mechanical side of things could be done, whether it would be worth doing is another thing. The Mk7 140ps runs a VNT turbo.

If you want that much power, it may be easier just to fit a 5cyl 200ps engine with it's associated gubbins and be done with it. I believe the 6sp RWD gearbox is the same on the 140 & 200ps machines, so it should be up to the task. Also believe there's a couple of people on here who have done this 4cyl to 5cyl conversion.

I was unaware that the 140 had a vnt on there is a random spare plug near my turbo, im wondering if that is maybe for the vnt control.... unless its one of those random resistor type things that don't seem to do anything, I had thought my turbo was the one with the housing built into the manifold so perhaps I could fit the vnt turbo straight on it..

im really looking at things like this, so say if my turbo goes bang then while im replacing it I can go ahead and fit a better one or something... I would like the 5cyl engine I must admit but then I would want to get more out of that!! and im not sure but don't the 5 cylinders have a funny sticky outy front end to make room for the longer engine ?
