niosy drive belt-help please

Postby little deep » Sat May 26, 2007 2:18 pm

i have a noise from the auxilary drive belt area on my 2001 2.4 transit.i have replaced the belt, idler and the tensioner(all ford spec parts)but screeching noise still there.spraying with wd40 has little effect for about 10 seconds then noise returns.when driving noise gets louder the longer i drive it to the point where it becomes unbearable.help please im going mad.

Belts probably knackered if you've been spraying it with WD40!

had another good look and it seems to be the pulley that drives the fan.how easy is it to change this and what is the procedure.im fed up paying garages to find a fault without sucess.so i might have ago myself if it is easy enough.thanks

Have you tried the top pulley . I had the same probs and discovered it was that one that was causeing all the probs. I used the pulley off my old tensioner /pulley swaped them over and that cured it.

just took off belt, ran engine no noise.noticed that viscous fan had play in it.connectd belt started engine held fan so it could not rotate and noise still there.pulled fan towards me noise went so it must be the fan bearing or pulley bearing that drives the fan.

I had the same problem with mine when I first bought it. So I took the fan off and bought an electric one which was cheaper than the Ford fan. For over a year now I have run the vehicle without the fan ever coming on including being stuck in London traffic for hours.
