Connect your MP3 Player to your MK7 Transit

Postby bn17311 » Fri Jun 01, 2007 6:40 am

Came accross this post on another forum to add an Mp3 to CMAX,
i have same stereo in my Transit so gave it a try. Worked a treat.

On the Transit i didnt have the wires in the description just the blank pins on the stereo, connected to these with push on connectors. I am going to buy the wiring from ford now i know it works just to do the job right

the reality is much simpler

:)

The plug on the back of the audio unit has a blank space where a multi plug would live.

go to your local ford parts dealer and ask them to look on the accessory section of microcat or ecat for the aux in jack kit for fiesta and fusion.

I don't know why it only shows up as being listed for that vehicle, but it'll work with all the new model audio units with the big black plug on the back.

The kit contains a black purpose made 3mm jack plug as fitted to focus and mondeo and a wiring loom approx. 18" long.

Plug the loom's multiplug into the main connector and refit the connector to the audio unit. Now decide where you want the jack plug and drill a hole as shown on the instruction sheet. Fit the plug and have done with it.

Cost of the kit was about 6 quid i think.

Saves all the messing about.....but you'll still have to change tracks on the ipod/mp3 player.

we just bought an itrip plug and tuned it into the radio. £30 ish.

the only down side is it runs off the ciggy socket so can`t use the sat nav... apart from on battery.

so might install another ciggy socket. perhaps in the glove compartment.
jumbos do it standing up....

How do you get on with the iTrip?

I bought one a while ago when I had an MR2 because no one did an adaptor for the toyota cd player to give it an aux in.

I used it once on a trip down to essex for a track day, worst thing i've ever bought!
I didn't even bother trying to use it on the way back and it's not been used since.

Those FM transmitters are ok but i find that the closer you get to a major city the worse they are purely because you run out of spare frequencies as there are so many radio stations :x

Just fitted the Ford kit this afternoon.

Brought the socket out through the blanked off 12V socket hole in the passenger side dash cubby.

So simple a job and the kit is so cheap it's not worth faffing about with DIY parts.

I wouldn't even think of using an FM Tx - loss of sound quality plus constant retuning.

Just fitted the Ford kit (ebay, approx £8 ) but having problems. (genuine Ford parts from a Ford maindealer)

To get decent quality sound through both speakers I have to partially unplug the 3.5mm plug from my MP3 player, and also partially pull out the plug where it connects to the Ford wiring. About 3mm each end does it.

With both plugs fully home the sound is very poor, quiet and dull. Pulling each plug different amounts causes the sound to change between lots of treble, very dull sounds, or music through either left or right channels. When you get it just right it sounds fine, but when driving they work loose.

Any ideas?

Pins/wire colour at radio end are:

black blue spare spare spare spare
spare green spare spare spare spare

Pins/wire colour at jack plug end are:

green spare black blue

Also, its not a special 3mm jack like Nighthawk mentioned? I assume it is standard 3.5mm?

Thanks for any help.

Pretty sure its a stereo lead, its genuine Ford so I wouldn't have thought they'd bother to do a mono version. It has the same leads/pin arrangement at the stereo end as described in the link in the first post.

I've checked the lead that the same ebay seller offers for the aux kit and it is described as a 3.5mm lead.

All I can think of is one of the pins is incorrect at the aux socket end. Can I do any damage to the unit by swapping the ground lead with one of the speaker channels temporarily?

What MP3 player is it?
I used to have a cheap one that was tempermental when using with some earphones/leads, it must've had a dodgy socket.

Try the same mp3 player and same lead, plugged into your hi-fi, PC, or anything with 3.5mm input
