time to change

Postby gofer » Thu Jul 05, 2007 6:08 pm

think its time to retire my old van and replace it. its a 90ps, and while its never set my hair on fire, performance wise, it has been a good reliable van.
would like to try a 125ps or even 140, but have heard a few horror stories about the new tdci engines. has anybody moved up from 90ps to a bigger output? how much better/worse was it. was it much more thirsty. should i stick to a 90ps engine. so many questions.

what would you do?

From what I fathom the Mk6 is still the best, I can testify to that crossing africa in a 90ps rear wheel drive medium wheel base version, mines a 2000 with 166000miles and still goes well and dont burn a drop of oil

Bigger engine/power always means you will use more fuel
I've towed a few big things about and recently towed a 2+ton Bayliner boat to the caost to play with, up hill was mmmm long but I dont think if I had more power it would of made much of a difference, boy we have some serious mountain passes here but the scenary is spectacular.

I sumtimes get 460 to a tank with a minor load but 340 with a full load
Will be doing another run to the coast and this time its going to be a slow drive to really see how far I can push on a tank.

It was just the fact that you were talking about 140ps vans, which you will only find in the Mk7's.

I had a 125 lwb but changed it for a 140 jumbo at the beggining of the year. The 140 gives me around 30 to the gallon on a run the 125 about the same so the extra power does'nt use anymore fuel as long as you dont boot it. No major problems with the 140 just niggly things that needed to be sorted

You will find that it will be fine, as long as it's a TDCI

I have owned the 125 TDCI from new (4.5 years) and can fully recommend it!

Love driving it everyday and a pleasure to drive. Mine has been chipped using the Bluefin and I would recommend it if you want the added buzz factor.

It's the longest I have kept a van but I'm only changing it because I am desparate to get into the new Sport van.

Fuel wise it will be better than your van at the moment.

Just get one, you wont regret it or look back.

before my engine blew my 90ps never used a drop of oil between long intervals that was with 289,000 on the clock,it is slow wich is painful, when i whent to look for a van at the time i had the choice of the 90 or 120,i should have gone 120 but didnt like the salesman, bit dodgey, not many of them about! but have drove a125ps with a 14ft box on the back,it was a flying machine, but guzzeled fuel, but when i change mine i think im gonna go for an o6 mk6 135 jumbo....not in white!
I am the god of hell fire.....

I had a 2001 90 lwb med roof in white (is that ok Mr Puk  ) which i had for 18 Months 500 miles to a Tank of Derv every time. It was never going to set any land speed records but was adequate for the Job.I then got a New 135 lwb Hiroof 6 speed (enough info?) which was like a Rocket ship in comparison  The down side was the fuel consumption for the first 10 k was 330 a Tank  which at 75 k is now 440 to a Tank :D . I am now thinking about a 140 lwb hiroof glx (More info when i get it  ) later this Year.
