Mk7 software update

Postby Whyalwaysme » Sat Feb 25, 2017 10:25 am

Hi all, I'm a first time poster to this group! Although I've been using this site for a few years to fault find issues I've previously had.
I bought a mk7 2.2 fwd 85hp last year.
The van has 66000 on a 60 plate
Full in house service history.
I believe the van has never had a software update.
I've been having issues with fluctuating revs on idle. Only seems to do it mainly when it's cold.
I've read about the scv and prv valves going bad.
I also get an intermittent flat battery, hasn't happened for a couple of months. I've had the silver calcium battery tested at several places, also the alternator and all have said there fine!!
I booked my van in for a full diagnostic check at a company in Leeds
They told me they would run live data, check the valves and injectors for problems
Anyway I was told the valves and injectors were good and all the readings are within tolerances
It had 2 faults
1 was the electric engine fans switch
1 was the evr sensor
I asked about a software update and was told this would not cure the problem. A better option would be to have a terraclean. I swiftly got the hell out of there!! These guys were just interested in selling me terraclean as a magic cure!!
I rang my local ford dealer to ask about a software update
They said if it's never had one it can take up to 4-5hours at £65+vat per hour
This sounds more like giving them an open cheque book!!!

Could anyone please help or advise me on the best place to get a full software update done with pump learns.
I'm in West Yorkshire. I'm willing to travel within reason!

Software update only takes about 20mins

I'd allow 1hr to do all the pump calibrations, fault code reading and a pcm update. :D anyone with ids could do it, or some other decent diagnostic gear.

I'd do it for you, but edinburgh may be a bit far

I didn't think it could take so long for a software update,
Unfortunately Edinburgh is too far pal!

Thanks anyway

I'll keep you posted!
Hopefully it will make an improvement.
I've had an intermittent fault with the engine fan coming on when engine cold.
I presume it will need a new switch. I'll try unplugging it tomorrow and check the wiring.

I ran my mk6 for 7years with less problems than I'm having with this one.
Strange I get an intermittent flat battery.
When I start it you can hear relays clicking behind dash near glove box is this normal?

Also when you start the van from cold and in neutral clutch off, I get a rattle that sounds like it's from the gearbox. It goes when warm or you press the clutch down. It has a smf 5 speed.
Any ideas what it could be?

Right... after a battle with the rusted up torx screw holding the map sensor on, I finally removed the sensor!
I've given it a clean and runs alot more responsive on the throttle! Seems to have groped loads!
The rattle I thought was coming from the gearbox, is actually coming from the gear selector sat ontop of the box. If I move it slightly when it's ticking over with my hand the noise stops! It feels to have slack in the arm the cable fastens to.
Looks difficult to access with all the pipes in the way.
I did have the gear stick not returning to centre problem and I greased the gear link up and it cured the problem as it was seized. May be worth replacing? Just annoying listening to the rattle

Can anyone please help with this software update for my 2.2 mk7 motor home.
I have contacted the local Ford transit centre Sunderland who knows nothing about it
It's not an issue when the engine is cold but once warmed up the thing needs massive clutch control and revs. It's a 140 brake and in the wet either stalls or wheel spins
Any help would be much appreciated
