CENTRAL LOCKING

Postby stustanley » Sun Jul 22, 2007 5:04 pm

I've read a couple of threads on the forum about problmes with central locking but these haven't helped as yet.

I have an 'x'plate lwb transit that has had problems with the locks since i got it in march. It has now locked the sliding side door permanently and i can't unlock it. The back door has never locked although if you move the pin/spring mechanism inside the door it makes an electrical/mechanical noise as though its locking and unlocking. The passenger door and drivers door sometime work together.

I have looked at the fuses under the cup holder thing under the passengers side of the windscreen. One 10amp fuse has blown which i've swapped over, with no change to anything. I can't tell what the fuses are as i don't have a schematic of the fuses.

Any ideas?

Well the central locking fuses are on the drivers side, above the pedals - I don't really know much else about central locking

Oh and can you not open the SLD from the inside, by turning the knob?

I must be going mad coz i can't find the fuses above the pedals. Where exactly??? Do you have to take any covers or panels of anywhere.

CENTRAL LOCKING

Postby stustanley » Sat Aug 04, 2007 12:10 pm

Well, the fuses are fine.

Managed to unlock side door, i think the contacts hadn't made at the front of this door. Pushing the door in slightly then unlocking with the key released the door. I then cleaned contact off and tried it, mech sounded as though it was locking then unlocking. Thought that the back door mech might have something to do with it so flicked the switch on the inside of the back door and tried locking it with all doors shut.

Now got BOTH the side loading door and rear locked shut and won't open!!!! So now can't get into back of van.

When you turn the key it makes a noise but doesn't unlock.

Any ideas?

Hi stustanley,
Have had a nightmare with my own central locking on an 03 plate transit, which in the process of repairing have become quite an expert with the central locking system as a whole.(all now working perfectly) Without looking at yours and carrying out some testing with a multimeter both at the lock units and at the CSM unit it would be hard for me to diagnose a fault, however, the sliding door contact plate proves to be a week spot and prone to problems, may require cleaning or the door may be slightly out of alinement. The rear door mechanism sounds as though it's faulty (As was mine) although withought dissasembly I couldn't be defenate. If the rear unit stops functioning the sliidng door will get stuck either open or shut depending on the internal switch positions of the rear door unit.

Getting in to the rear of the van if both doors are stuck isn't impossible but can be quite difficult!

If the rear lock has failed it will cost you around £90.00 for a replacement and a couple of minutes to fit.

Ill send you a private message with some contact information for me which may be of some help.

I hope you get this sorted as there is nothing more annoying than locks that don't do as there supposed too!! 8)

Enjoy, my side door jammed up had to strip of cover to get into the bugger, bend plates back on top and got a thin screw driver in to unlatch the b*stard, cleaned up, lubbed and worked well ever since, recently it did to me one more time but pushing on front of sliding door did the trip as it wasnt making contact, a light sanding on door and contact plate did it well...
