Sheeesh, 600+ miles??? Has it got a bigger fuel tank?

I know the copper washers cost pence Andz, but i was too scared to change them myself in case I dropped something into the engine.

Both have standard 80ltr tank mate, even if I'm towing a 1000kg boat with my lwb 2.2 I'd get more than 450mls in fact my old 2.0 tddi medium roof mwb would do 600mls per tank
Had a problem with my 130 it became quite thirsty after fitting a cheap prv also engine became very quiet, After changing to a proper ford prv the power was back, fuel consumption was better and engine was slightly noisier ((diesel crack)) but
even though it had done 330,000mls by that time she would hit 100mph+ most days at some point

Even my LWB 2.4 RWD Mk7 170+ does over 1000km or 600+ miles to a tank....(if I nurse it)...

Last tank gave me 400 miles only.

So now the copper washers have changed lets see if it helps.....

Should I be thinking maybe the prv needs changing??

Is there any point in comparing fuel consumption without taking (at least) transmission and diff ratio into account?
My 2.4 high roof 100ps does about 500 miles with a full tank but I've got the stupid 5.11 diff.

Image

There's seems to be quite a significant difference between all the different specs...
Plus I guess where you usually drive and how would also make a difference..
I live in a fairly hilly area.

Having said that... 400 miles does seem a bit low

Yours is about as thirsty as it can get without going twin rear axle and your still a 100mls better than the dudes swb fwd that has same gearbox as my 2.2 fwd lwb and I'm over 200mls more so yes it tells me Houston we have a problem

Hey Daraioj :D . I've got a 2.2L, don't know at the moment what the diff is.

I have a hint from the thingy that records journey length that now I am getting greater fuel economy. BUT it still smoke like an 1880s steamer when I accelerate, and hey presto, the oil leak is back.

The mechanic invited me back to check it over right quick.

Here's the latest -

Today I got some advice from someone "who knows a mechanic". He said he would drive a few miles down the motorway at high speed in second gear, and this would clear out coking in the engine which is causing the black smoke...

He swore he'd done it a few times and it always worked.

Anyone heard of this?

Tell him he's dreaming....might work for a day or two but unless you fix the issue, it will happen again.
