On later transits they have a glow plug module which sees all 4 glow plugs individually, it means it can report a single faulty glow plug, I would be looking at yours, it may be a faulty plug or a bad connection etc.

I could be talking bollox and it might be something else though. :(

Theres a fuse in the fusebox under bonnet for glowplug monitoring,it's a 5A I think,

I've made a bit of progress with the glow plugs in that the supply checks out ok. I connected my Avo between the plug bus an earth, got my mate to switch on. There was no volt drop on the supply, there for the fault should be with the plugs them selves. unfortunatly the 4mm terminal nuts are seized on, (which could be the problem) so once a week I give them a squirt of wd.

Best to measure the Ohm's reading of each glowplug (internal resistance ).You will have to disconnect all of them , measure and see if readings are similar .
Glow plugs have an internal electrode than a layer of carbon in between the body and electrode . In time the carbon burns away and due to vibration the electrode can touch the body creating a intermitent short.

Yes I agree. I've got to get the nuts undone first, I'll give them another squirt tomorrow. I also want to make sure I can remove the glow plugs from the head and copper slip the threads, I have heard of glow plugs being seized, hope they aren't!

Hi
A little bit in late to this discussion but usefull i hope.
On this last 2018 june, the main relay R10 (if i well remember), failed (one " grey" in the engine box in the right black box)
The failure was: no lamps on the board, no starter, and no default on the obd tool, i let you imagine the time i spent for a relay at 8€.
One month later during a travel with this motorhome, i discovered the 12V fridge function didn't work resulting in: the beer was not cold...:-)
After many many hours passed to find this failure, i let you guess.... the "grey'' relay in the cabin gloves box witch drives the motorhome control panel was out of order! No chance for sure.
Last week, with this cold weather coming, my son, using and starting the motorhome, called me and said it is very difficult to start; after having a look on the notice i discovered the engine-preheating is managed with a relais, thisone on the left of the R10 in the engine black box...it is a "grey"colour too...Now it starts perfectly...funny isn't? Three identical grey relays in less of 6 months out.
Long life to our MK7

2011 was change over from euro 4 to 5.

If you have day time headlights, silver grille and blue power badge on back door yours is euro 5 and will need the 4.4 volt plugs.
