Rear hub seals leaking oil over rear discs

Postby zichien » Wed Aug 15, 2018 4:00 pm

Had axle oil leaking all over my rear breaks about 3 months ago, so the seals were replaced. Now one is leaking again resulting in a potential mot fail. I'm going back to the guy that did it for me... My question is: Has he done something wrong.... should he sort it out for me, or could it be another unrelated problem that's caused it?

cheers!

Seals rarely just fail from old age.

Could be that the wheel bearing is failing and the excess movement is making the seal leak.
mk7 08reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD
mk6 X reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD - scrapped
mk4 J reg 2.5 L300 LWB MHR RWD - sold on

Notice a trend there ? not too big and not too small

Since you haven't told us, and since you have rear discs, we'll assume it's a Mk7.....sometimes the axle section the seal runs on can be damaged causing the seal to leak.

Incorrect fitting of the seal :(

he may have nicked the seal putting in.

or as said wheel hub rattling around either from wheel bearing failing or just not put on correctly, he may have not cleaned the axle propley and have dirt were the seal sits :)
